Carol Simpson SENIOR CLASS On September 2, 1960, ninety-four dubious seniors began their first and last year at West Hen- derson High School. Although we doubted our acceptance of this newschool, we soon found our every fear removed--for at West were to be found the many opportunities in scholastic achievement, in leadership development, and in making new friends. So it is that we have spent the most wonderful year of our lives. We are now looking two ways toward our graduation--backward and forward. Weare reluctant to leave all the wonder we are so happy to have found, but we will, of course, proudly carry with us the great honor of being the first graduating class of West Henderson. But nevertheless, to all who have made our dreams come true--to our parents and families, to our teachers and friends, to our principal, Mr. Marlow, and to our three sponsors, Mrs. Cassady, Mrs. Lutz, and Mr. Thompson--we offer our deep gratitude and most sincere thanks. How well we remember that first day. Students saw familiar faces, as well as meeting new friends and teachers. Everyone was happily admiring one of the most beautiful schools in the state. There was some disorganization that day, but under the guiding hands of Mr. Marlow, things rapidly began to take shape. The Junior Class was divided into four groups with Mrs. Dotson, Mrs. Corpening, Mrs. Griffin, and Mr. Hollamon at the reins. These groups, like all the other classes, became a close-knit one in a surprisingly short time. This was due to the remarkable spirit and enthusiasm shown by all juniors. In the middle of February, we were very fortunate to have an additional member added to our faculty, Mrs. Burgoon, who quickly earned the respect and admiration of her students, and became one of our sponsors. As the months quickly passed, we realized that we were coming to the end of another school year--One, not like any of the others, Our first year at West High has been a most enjoyable one because of the guidance, patience, and kindness that has been shown us. 2) Aileen Adcock Bill Barnwell Martha Brock Claxton Bailey Jimmy Baker Barbara Allison Marlon Beddingfield Glenn Bell William Barnwell Gunior Judy Bishop Arnold Bradley Jo Ann Brown Donald Burnett Joe Braswell Jerry Cairnes Ned Campbell Martha Cannon Frankie Capps William Capps Ted Campbell Ann Capps Shirley Capps Billy Case Mrs. Griffin Sponsor William Connelly Johnny Connor Janet Cole Jeff Corn Margaret Coston Phyllis Crisp UML Ronnie Davis Quintin Dill Linda Drake Judy Eplee Barbara Fowler Nancy Frady Dixie Corn Linda Darnell Judy Drake Toni Freeman Mike Fugate Wayne Garren Vonnie Goode Larry Hamilton Edn a Garren Georgia Lee Glenn Jean Gonce Eddie Hawkins Sisco Betty Gosnell Douglas Henderson Mrs. Dotson Sponsor Bob Gossett Sandra Hendricks Lynda Hill Ann Holden Carolyn Hoots Don Hutchinson Gail Hutchinson Ge Sharon Hutchinson UlMOor Norman Israel Elizabeth Johnson Gary Jones Linda Kimzey Ann King Doris Lance Freda Howard Kitty Israel Betty Keeter Ronald Lance Mrs. Corpening Randall Lanning Kathy Leonard Sponsor Judy Ann Lewis Carolyn Mathis Geraldine Maxwell Barbara McCall Judith Meadows Ruth Merrill Walter McMinn Hugh Nash Ernest McMinn Ethel Murphy Ronnie McCrary William Moore Bruce Plemmons Margaret Phillips Joe Rhodes Carroll Riddle Rhonda Parker Elizabeth Rice Eric Meece Raymond Orr, Jr. Edwin Redden Judy Rhymer Mrs. Burgoon Sponsor Shelba Jean Robinson Johnny Rogers Everette Schafer Jimmy Shirlen Doris Ann Simpson Kenneth Singleton Austin Smith Brenda Smith Nancy Smith Carolyn Souther Estelle Stewart Joan Stewart Betty Strickland Dean Sumner Conley Teag ue Ronnie Thompson Barbara Warren Elizabeth Gh Larry Watkins Barbara Weese UNL Chee Kenneth Wilkie Martha Williams Sue Williams Joel Worley Nancy Wright Daniel Zumstein Loolktine Forward. Hardly knowing what to expect, we soon found at West, the many opportunities and advantages that heretofore had been lacking. As time progressed and we became engrossed in various activities, it became evident that many . potential leaders were to be found in this energetic group. As evidence ofthis fact, we elected Jimmy Cairnes to lead us as President, Linda Scarborough as Vice-President, Jeri Baynard as Secretary, and Deweena Fowler as Treasurer. We shall not forget these students, as they have helped pave the way for the future student government of this school. We, as students of the Sophomore Class, are anxiously anticipating our forthcoming years at this school which already means so much to us. sf) Ann Allen Carroll Allen Gail Allison Danny Ammons Shirley Andrews Sara Ashe Danny Austin Minuard Bailey | Syohomore Doris Banning Geraldine Baynard Carolyn Bell Sandra Bell Sponsor. . .Mr. Rudisail Wayne Bell Melba Bentley Steve Blackwell Earl Brevard Ronnie Brevard Danny Bordner Joe Boyd Jimmy Brannon David Brown Arnold Bryson Johnny Byrd Jimmy Cairnes Madeline Campbell Donna Sue Cantrell Margaret Cantrell Judy Ann Case Delores Cathey Earl Clay Shirley Clayton Gail Corn Sponsor. . .Mr. Worley Donald Cox Linda Crisp Priscilla Crisp Elizabeth Crook Roy Cunningham Jim Darnell | Aaron Davis Calvin Bud Day Jackie Duncan Charles Ducker Ronnie Emory Evan Flynn Dewena Fowler Freddie Fowler Carolyn Franklin Tommy Franklin Harold Galloway Frances Garren Gerald Garren Sponsor. . .Miss Gillespie Frances Gash Becky Gilreath Julian Goode Richard Gordon David Green John Harms Elaine Heffner Roy Hensley Douglas Holbert Janet Holbert Becky Holcombe Vivian Hollingsworth Judith Holt Louise Holtzclaw Harold Houk Vera Lee Howell Pat Huggins Ray Huggins Shirley Jones Sponsor. . .Mr. Woodson Linda Kuykendall Pauline Laughter Mildred Livingston Mary Maxwell Faye McCall Shirley McCarson Jimmy McCrary Teresa McGraw Sandra Miller Otis Moore Deena Morris Wilma Nash Steve Norton Jimmy Owens David Porter Patricia Praytor Kenneth Redden Jean Reese Nadine Reese Betty Rhodes Jo Leen Riddle Nancy Russell Linda Scarborough Ann Scruggs Don Sitton Ralph Sizemore Cheryl Ann Smith Larry Smith Robert Smith Sandra Smith Richard Souther Judy Sweeney June Taylor Bobby Tucker if Dan Waldrep Dorothy West Frances Wheeler Bill Whitaker Furman Whiteside Linda Williams Edith Ann Wilson Rita Wycoff Clifford Wynn Kenneth Young Carolyn Youngblood All Set! We looked forward with enthusiasm, eagerness, and perhaps fear to the place that we would occupy for the next four years--a place that no one could share--for we, the class of 1964, would be the first class to have spent our four full years of high school at West Henderson. During our first year, we have seen the halls of the Administration Building filled with salt- mounted skeletons and birdhouses which were contributed dutifully by the boys' physical education classes. We have seen Dave Marshall placed on the boys' varsity basketball team; Ilene Allison, Priscilla Drake, and Sharon Moffitt become members of the girls' varsity. Gloria Burris, Diane Hill and Sandra Lance, representing our class, have helped tocheer our basketball teams on to vic- tory. We, the freshman class, face our three remaining years at West Henderson withhigh hopes and determination to do our best. 47 Kathy Alexander David Allen Evelyn Allison Ti Ilene Allison Clyde Angel, Jr. David Austin Jerry Austin Eva Baldwin Weldon Baldwin Earl Ballard ee errr Avalina Barnwell Doris Barnwell Jimmy Barnwell Robert Barnwell Terry Beddingfield Yvonne Beddingfield Tresha Bell Priscilla Biddy Ronald Bishop Margaret Blackwell Barbara Brackett James Breneman J.
