The record itself cannot be stated as very good, but what is more important is the sportman- ship and team effort they dis- played throughout the season. Every year the Parent's Wres- tling Association contributes as much as they can to help the team in any way. Another recent e n i o r s John Geisick development is the completion of a new wrestling room in which the team can spend their time preparing for the upcoming sea- son. Also just developing through Mr. Milot is a group called the Mat Cats. They assist the cheer- leaders in leading our team to victory. They com- piled a record of 19 wins-7 losses. Of course, it couldn't have all happened without that one-of-a-kind coach, Yosh Grobelny, and his two assistants, Art Connely and Joe Clark. These three men worked with a few of the most talented players in the area. Among them are Bob Powell, Craig Krachner, Joe Minneci, Todd Stroh, and Jackie Callen, the starters for our games. Bob Powell, who had 673 total points for the year, went over the 1000 point mark in his career. After scoring 43 points against Bishop Hafey, Bob was presented with the game ball. Another senior who helped to keep the Cats on the right track was Craig Karchner. His dazzling performances caused the spotlight to turn his way many times. Craig finished the year with a total of 420 points. Joe Minneci always added a bit of sparkle to each game and kept the team rolling even when he was on the bench. His team spirit was always high. Todd Stroh, the fourth senior on the team, usually came through when needed the most. He was a good, steady, reliable player whom the team could not do without. A special thanks goes to our entire basket- ball team for a sensational 1976-77 season. The flagtwirlers, through all their efforts, helped to inspire and trans- mit these feelings. They began practicing for the 76-77 season in mid sum- mer. With 1976 being the bicentennial year, they par- ticipated in many parades, celebrating our nations birth. From August 21 to 24 the flagtwirlers, along with other bandfront members and the band, attended Camp COMO in the Poco- no's. They put in many long hours of work and coopera- tion to prepare for the soon-to-come- football season. And, of course, along with the work came many hours of fun. And so, late August brought early September which brought the season's lst football game. They have shown that the Blue and Gold, and the spirit, faith, and pride that goes with it will wave forever. Senior Cindy Yoder Qin Senior Lynn Lawson Senior Diane Furnanage Senior Kim Coffman Our 1976-77 Colorguard Squad never failed to ex- press the dignity and en- thusiasm that was felt for W.H.H.S. Beginning with many long hours of prac- tice, the colorguard was there to lead the W.H.H.S. band for many parades. They attended band camp along with all other band- front members in August, which also enabled them to share in all the fun and excitement. When football season came the color- guard squad was a very special feature at all the games. The work of each girl on the squad provided for the needed support and cheers in times of the many victories and the few de- feats. They will always be remembered for the great deal of effort and devotion that they put forth. .Alma .meffcir ,5.lJ V cLmOJx., i V' 9 V F P V V 1, J- J ' 6 i 4532.35 Pwijgwgwmwfdii are V 1' M .U E MQJSHEQ 'wry P ' '5 I' 1' 2 M FEE HHr V Film ggjjikillg if? Oh Clare, I LOVE surprises! iA fl 1 Life With Father was proudly and tremendously presented by members of the Senior Class on December 4, 1976. It was an unforgettable evening for both the entire cast and their ever-faithful director, Nlr. Jamelli. He was always at their side with pro- mising words of encouragement to uphold the confidence of everyone, The action took place in the late 1800's in the Day home. The plot re- volved around the task of getting Mr. Day baptized. With Mrs. Day being strictly religious, she was flabber- gasted to find that after 20 years of marriage, her husband had never been baptized. Thinking that perhaps this would mean the marriage was invalid, lVlr. Day was quick to point out that after having four children if they weren't married now, they never would be! Despite all the tactics he used in his attempts to avoid the baptismal, the curtain closed with Mr. Day on his way out . . . to be baptized! Along with the memories from that night also came the memories from the many nights of practice before the final performance which were spent with loyal devotion by all. l Let us turn to Him in prayer. They were about to encounter one of the greatest achievements in their lives. Originally scheduled for June 17, the program was held on the eighteenth of June due to a cancellation because of rain. The change in date, however, did not affect the importance of the ceremony as Randy De- Pue offered a welcome to all, Bill Schweitzer en- lightened us about the past and the future, and Carol Palubinsky presented a tribute to the parents. Mr. Francis X. Antonelli and Daniel C. Parrell then offered remarks stating the great pride held with the Class of 1977 marking 50 years of experience through West Hazleton High School. The top ten students were then presented with their diplomas as was each of the re- maining 219 members of the class. As class president, Cheryl Lockwood then led the class in signifying their graduation by turning their tassle from left to right. The Class of '77 then became a part of WHHS history. Joining together for the last time in the singing of the Alma Mater, the graduates offered a final tribute to West Hazleton High-our guide. 'Q- n is-I Af, gt A. I A 5 2. Everyone is to be com- mended for their determination and effort. Many times we all found ourselves saying, HELP , and no one else but Mrs. Pergosky came to our rescue. There are not enough words to be able to describe this wonderful woman. Through good and bad times, she was always there with patience and under- standing. Now as we look throughout this yearbook and see all our cherished golden memories , we will remember the hard work and devotion put forth by the whole Arcana Staff.
