Members of the West Hazleton .Ioint School District represent the communities of Conyngham, Sugar- loaf Township, West Hazleton and North Union Township, and those on the board represent leading citizens of those communities who give of their time and effort to see that we are provided with the best possible education. These men have proven to be more than just school directorsf' The students in their respective ,com- munities have known them personally and have on many occasions called on them for advice and council, which was cheerfully and capably given. To the Board of Education, we of the Class of 1962, assure you that your leadership, council and out- standing efforts in securing for us a well-rounded education, has been appreciated. - em'-' l THEODORE BEISHLINE FREDERICK DUTE RAYMOND CUYDISH DONALD HAYCOCK NEY HORN R. ZOSCIN JOHN ZUBICK 27 EU-,EEN ZUNSKI LEO STEADELE Deceased - 1960 CLASS POEM When we leave our dear West Hazleton High, We'll say farewell but not good-by. For how can we leave our memories dear, Of things that we cherish from year to year. Of what we,ve learned and friends we,ve met? They aren,t that easy to forget. We,ll use what you've taught to conquer each foe We,ll spread your fame where,er we go. The privilege to work andthe privilege to play, Are placed in our hands, where we know they will stay. Wefll guard priceless freedoms through day and through night. No one will surpass us, we,ll do our jobs right. We cannot express the way that we feel, For words are not made that will truly reveal The heartfelt sadness, the trembling joy, That circulates through each girl and boy, As they pass through these halls for the last time, No one can explain this feeling sublime. We,ll leave behind the good times we,ve had, The frolicking fun, both good and bad. It's no secret that when we go, Wesll leave behind what we love so. It,ll be so hard to say good-by, To our greatest friend, West Hazleton High! Rosemary Fogarty, Class Poet Class of 1962 28 Senior Class History Sophomores 1959-1960 The first big event in our high school days came in September 1959, when the class en- tered the Senior High School as Sophomores. It was a new and exciting experience which will always remain a part of us. The days passed quickly and soon the spirit of Christ- mas filled the halls. The mixed chorus pre- sented Christmas On Wax,', a musical with enjoyable Christmas carols. In February of 1960, the entire school presented the operetta, Sunbonnet Sue, in which many talented members of the Sophomore Class participated. Next came the annual Sophomore Day pro- gram, carring the theme of The Four Sea- sons. In the evening we danced to music by the Kingsmen,-and so ended our Sophomore Year. Iuniors 1960-1961 But along came September again, and back to the old grind- this time as Iuniors. The Wildcats completed a spectacular football season with a victory over Hazleton High School on Thanksgiving Day. We received our class rings and now were considered full- fleclged members of the school. Rehearsals were soon begun for the thrilling mystery Reserve Two For Murderf, presented in Feb- ruary to a full house. Once again we found ourselves preparing for a class day and it turned into a most enjoyable day and dance. Even though it rained on Iunior Day, West Hazleton High School was filled with Sun- shine. Seniors 1961-1962 Soon our summer vacation ended and we returned to school as Seniors! This was to be our big year, and so determined to start the year in proper style, the class presented its play lane Eyref, It was a huge success as was Senior Day on November 17. The class was convinced that it was the best in the history of the school. The days seemed to fly and soon Christmas was in the air. The chorus and band earnestly began rehearsing for their annual concert, and everyone seemed engrossed in Christmas activities. The class of 1962 is coming closer and closer to graduation. We happily spend our remaining school days here and try not to regret leaving, even though we know that Commencement and the Senior Prom will bring to a close the happiest years of our lives. It was so exciting, I haven't been there for ten years, since I've been a secretary for Brutosky Space Insurance Agency. First, I purchased my ticket at the Stein- Rent-A-Missle Service where Gloria Voytko sold me a ticket. On the way to the missile launching platform, I hailed a space mobile and to my surprise it was driven by John Somits. As I entered the space terminal I asked the time of departure of my rocket. The receptionist, Barbara Grohol, assisted by Jackie Eisenhart, told me we were just about ready to leave. I was so hungry, that I ran over to the cafeteria and grabbed a super sonic energy sandwich which was served by Richie Tito. While boarding the rocket I was assisted by Carole Green, the stewardess. I also met the pilot and co-pilot, Ioe Shimanski and Dave Yeager and the following members of the crew: john Zubick, Larry Novatnack and Gerry Mistal. I was introduced to a few of the passengers who seemed vaguely famil- iar, Ronnie Gordish, Bob Podlasek, Mary Chu- cot, Monica Schwick and Mary Breshock. The rocket ride was fabulous. The trip was quite tiring since it took two hours. Leaving the rocket, we were greeted by Carol Kotarra, the ambassador of good will to Mars. I pro- ceeded to a restaurant which was owned by Al and Helen Croman, we noticed the cashier was Barbara Hoats and the chef was Steve Hyduke. We took a super-subway to West Hazleton while swiftly the stores passed into view. All stores were designed by Ioseph Grusetskie, noted architect. The first thing we noticed was Lutz Florist Supplies in com- petition with Schey,s Flower Service. Down the street were more buildings, such as Arlene CHouser,sQ Fashion Shoppe, Kathy CHenry,sl Art Shoppe, Grovich Institute of X-Ray Tech- nology, Perry's Banquet Hall, and the Club Paisley. Some other buildings were: Gill's Health Food Restaurant, and Klingmarfs Rocket Refueling Station. I left the super- subway and since I was exhausted from my trip, I registered at the Ritz Hotel. The manager, Iacy Eidleman showed me to my room. Included in the hotel service was house detective Tom Ogorzalek. A reducing salon operated by Donald Getz and Bob Parry, a beauty room operated by Rosie Carr and a Charm Course featuring Rose Ann Sokoloski and hair stylist and colorist Mickey Sacco. Also a Gift Shoppe was owned by Lorraine Zoscin and Rosie Stashko. I wanted to see what the old school looked like so I returned there and found Ray Schneider as Supervis- ing Principal, Paul Gallagher, Principal and the following members of the faculty, Karen Haury, Gym instructor, Eddie James, Botany, Bob Hinkle as Shop Teacher, and Christine T eter as German Teacher. I also found that Jerry Lindner was Mayor, with Charles and Paul Vogt as two worthy members of Council. I was told many of my classmates are in the armed forces: Tom Beckley, Dave Yurista, James Nawracay, George Steiner and William Berger. I had to get some travelerls checks in Schott,s National Bank. Marilyn Ganc help- ed me find the bank teller, Patsy Voycheck. I noticed in the directory the following officers: Jack Tokash, Hypnotist, Bernard Sarnoski, M.D., Terry McMichael, Chiropract- or. I found out later they all had very com- petent nurses as Therese Kudrick, Marie Haraschak, Jean Schott, Mary Beth Puza and Nancy Bachman. Leaving the bank, I approached Kakaley's Jewelry Store featuring Jim Carey, the expert diamond setter. Next to Kakaleyis Jewelry was the M. G. Grocery Store, owned by Mary Grohol. I also noticed an extremely modern drug store, Leonard's Drugsv owned by James Leonard and managed by Tom Nemeth. The druggist was John Cerasaro. I looked down the street and saw an ultra Modern Super Automobile driven by Kenny Launikon- is and on it was a sign painted in black letters saying, Smiling John Bogertf, It seemed as if it were an ad for toothpaste. I retumed to my apartment and got ready to attend a dinner at the Getz Club. This was to be the biggest event of my trip home. Upon arriving at the club I was greeted by -receptionist, Marilyn Ganc. My escort, Dr. Tom Mumaw and I were greeted by Pat Salvaterra. The entertainment was provided by that famous trio Mary Lou Bednar, Bonnie Luchi, and Esther Faust, accompanied by Joe Maschack and his Satellite Seven. The even- ing proved successful.
