SCHOOL HISTORY ln the year l924 a beautiful building was erected on Monroe Avenue in the borough of West Hazleton-a new high school. This structure at that time was large enough to accommodate the number of students who attended school. Graduating classes numbered about fifteen or twenty. Soon the population of the borough increased. Little by little the classes became larger. Finally in l934 and in the following years it was necessary to make out a new schedule. The classes of the seventh and eighth grades were put on sessions. The matter of the building of a new school was in time put before the taxpayers. After a lengthy debate appropriations were made, the plans drawn up, and the actual work was begun. After many set-backs the date for entrance was set, only to be postponed at various times for varied reasons- dimensions were wrong-furniture delayed, etc. Finally after much antici- pation we entered with full glory into the beautiful new high school well toward the end of March of l939. The first class graduated with pride-and now we, the class of '40, will leave forever the portals of our Alma Mater. With sincere regret we leave, and with glad hearts we can always remark with pride that we, too, were members of the West Hazleton High School.
