CLASS HISTCRY On September l, l980, a new group of shy and nervous sophomores entered W.H.H.S. for the first time. As every class previously, we were ordered into the auditorium for the opening day speech. We were given rules and regulations and assigned to our homerooms. At this time, the best and most exciting three years of our lives began. With the guidance of our advisors, Mr. Jeffords and Mr. Hill, we held our first class officer election, the winners were as follows: President - Rocco D'Eugenio, Vice President -- Annmarie D'Aurio, Secretary - MaryBeth DiCerbo, Treasurer - Kim Cerillo. These four people would be the first leaders of the class of 83, Our class started out with a fundraising concert NRBQ, which didn't go over well and put us in debt. We sold MSM's for what seemed like forever. ln November our class was involved in Homecoming week, with sophomore representatives, Joe Gentile and Kelly Nebor. The remainder of our first year rolled along smoothly but the class was still young and did not have the spirit that would have contributed to a more suc- cessful year. We entered our Junior year with a little more confidence. We were no longer the lowlife of the school! Our officers were President - Maryann Milano, Co-Vice Presidents - Ann- marie D'Aurio and Shelly Recchia, Secretary - MaryBeth DiCerbo, Treasurer - Kim Cerillo. With the beginning of a new year came the reality that our class was in serious financial trouble, we had to recover the money we lost with the NRBO. concert. The entire class worked unrelentingly. We had extensive support from the school faculty and the community during our fund ralsers, thus we overcame our debt. ln November, Homecomingweek was held. The results of the Junior election were Joe Gentile and Kelly Nebor. Soon it was Christmas. We enjoyed our vacation knowing when we returned we would begin working on specific plans for the Junior Prom. The arrival of our rings in January was a celebrated event, but our thoughts were quickly brought back to making decisions for the prom. Our committee was large and it became difficult to make group decisions. Not everyone could be pleased therefore, it was to our ad- vantage that we were an understanding group. We completed our work. Our prom was on April 23, the theme was appropriately The First Time, We danced all night to the music of Moonrise. The evening was a bit hectic. Some famous quotes were, Where's the other photographer, Where is the prom com- mittee? and, I ordered shrimp, not prime rib. In lieu of this, our prom was a great success. From that night on everyone has been anticipating our Senior Prom. Late in April, senior class officer campaigning began. The candidates were, for President - MaryBeth DiCerbo, Patty Kelly, and Rocco D'Eugenio, Vice President - Mary Bacchiocchi, Nate Cotton, Annmarie D'Aurio, and Shelly Recchia, Secretary - Lori Ludiviconi, Rose Raucci, Annmarie Tavoliero, Treasurer - Kim Cerillo and Anita Aportria. The competition in this election was great. Every candidate wanted the position they were running for badly. Because of a slight mishap, two elections were necessary: the first election was void. The results of the second election were, President - Patty Kelly, a tie for Vice President - Annmarie D'Aurio and Shelly Recchia, Secretary -- Rose Raucci, Treasurer - Kim Cerillo. The above students would lead our final year at West Haven High. On September 2, we entered the building to begin our last first day of school, Everyone had a case of senioritis, but once we became reassociated with the school and each other, everything fell into place. The first big event of the year was the Halloween Dance, which was held on Saturday, October 30, in our own cafe from 8:00-12:00 p.m. It was a great success, many students attended, appearing as pac-men, lips, monsters, playboy bunnies and others. November passed quickly and soon came time for our Homecoming week. It began with elections. There were many nominees but only eight students could win. The results were announced at the pep rally, which was an unusual one: it was the first time it was held in our auditorium. Third runners up were Kathy DeGoursey and Sal Festa, second runners up - Pam Williams and Jimmy Carney, first runners up - Lisa Laoue and Angel Robles, King and Queen, for the third year in a row, Joe Gentile and Kelly Nebor. Although this is not a complete history of our class, it does summarize many im- portant events and calls to mind memories of good times which will never be forgotten. Our three years at Westie High have been a great experience and have taught us how to love, laugh, take leadership, and most of all, how to care about our fellow classmates and their futures. We are grateful to all who have supported us. As we continue our lives we can always reminisce on the years we spent together, and the lasting friendships we've made. R. Raucci
