EDUCATIGNAL CENTER FOR THE ARTS ALTERNATE I Alternate l is a program, which is housed in the front wing on the Main Floor. It deals with a specifically selected portion of the student body. The main reason students are accepted into the Alternate Program is because they are performing well below their capacity socially andf or academically. Some of the characteristics of students in this program are: inability to function properly within the traditional classroom setting, sufficient potential to benefit from the program, and academic skill development below ability. The overall goal of the program is to decrease the incidence of alienation among youth, staff and community. The Educational Center for the Arts is a cours which gives students the opportunity to study wit artists in the areas of dance, music, and the visua arts. Students who participate in this program hay displayed commendable talent in the arts and hax successfully auditioned before members of the sta of the Educational, Center for the Arts. ECA sti dents attend classes daily at the Educational Centi for the Arts Building on 55 Audubon Street, Ne Haven. Th program educates these students beyond mediocre levels i basic skill areas and modifies social attitudes towards nonnl behavior expectations.
