ODE TO THE WEST GENESEE VVILDCAT MAFRCHING BAND -- 1980 Looking toward the Florida sun, we're the Wildcats, Number One Thank you for inviting us here, hope you like our show this year Came by plane, by car, by bus, we're gonna take that trophy home with us ln '75 we won first prize, with tears of triumph in our eyes it Our spirits high, our honor true, we wore our colors gold and blue Our uniforms are new this year, our music fine and oh, so clear , The staff is tough, and a little meang our lines are straight, our show is clean They work so hard all day and night, they'ii keep us here till we do it right Pine Grove has been the place to meet, with aching muscles and sore feet y Practice, practice, please no more, our tails are dragging to the floor Snow comes down, our schools are closed, we still have practice, wear warm clothes We needed funds we didn't know how, but all was raised by the sweat of our brow A chicken dinner one hot day and auction got us on our way Sold groves of fruit, had a garage sale, got stacks of tickets in the mail , , , Smoker, dance, spaghetti dinner, buy a raffle and be a winner All worked hard so we could go, even had a TV show Dollars rolled in by the score, only need ten thousand more 1 itg, lt was work and it was fun, we did things that couldn't be done So many to thank for their generous share, of time and effort we know they care, We march on the field in a straight line, every footstep keeping time? iiri W it Helmets white, all in a row, batons twirling set to go. Now hear the drum, hear the flute, our guys are handsome, our gals are cute g , Banners, trombones, trumpets, too,' so strong, so proud of what wedo it A turban here, a black cape there, rifles tossed high in the air The crowd is cheering and waving hats, hear them yelling GO WILDCA TS i Black boots polished, silver gleaming, parents, friends and fans are screaming Listen to the roar of the crowd, we know they love us and feel so proud s Think by now you've heard enough, in 1980 just watch our stuff E Our show is great and what a score, we'li take that trophy home once more So look out Florida here we come -- We're the Wildcats Number One. , t N MRS.
