.Malory Pay attention, dear Reader, and hear what I say, Here's the history of seniors who're leaving today. It's bad manners to read diaries we often hear, But you can read this one and have no fear. September 14, 1942 Dear Diary, Today I took my first peep on the inside of that building atop West Fulton hill. Boy, that old owl surely cast a wondering :ye on us poor little Freshmen, I couldn't much blame him for giving that gruesome Hoot as he counted 313 strangers passing over his threshold. September 23, 1942 Dear Diary, School has really started now. We were initiated into clubs today. Ohl Will I ever live it down? Thanksgiving Day, 1942 Dear Diary, Well, Thanksgiving Hnally rolled around, and we were given a two-day holiday. If it is a sin to eat too much, I am going to have to pray all day tomorrow. December 7, 1942 Dear Diary, This day, December 7, will live in our memory forever- Dne year ago the Iapanese made a sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. How well we remember this day a year ago when we were called to assemble to hear our President address :he nation-uThe United States is at war with japan. lanuary 1, 1943 Dear Diary, New Year's Day found us, of all places, in school. Father Time and Baby New Year were guests at our house last night, and we were allowed to p1ay until past bedtime. But, I still don't think I deserve those demerits I got for napping in class today. March 20, 1943 Dear Diary, The Spring Carnival was lots of fun. We were proud of our new rulers, even if they did look frightened, September 7, 1943 Dear Diary, This morning the old bell rang again telling us that our second year at West Fulton is just beginning. That old feel- ing came over me again as I saw my old friends, November 30, 1943 Dear Diary, That old owl looks good sitting atop that highest branch. He's up there to attract attention and let the world know that he won the NGIC for football this year. March 30, 1944 Dear Diary, Once again the Spring Carnival has come. Our class worked in team to put our king and queen on top, but when the votes were added up, the Iuniors took the cup. May 12, 1944 Dear Diary, Today all juniors and Seniors were in a trance because tonight they will have their Hrst Iunior-Senior dance. I can hardly wait until next year, but during the meantime, I am going to put in a special request in behalf of all Freshmen and Sophomores. I don't see why we can't have a special dance, too. September 5, 1944 Dear Diary, Today we Iuniors pushed open West Fulton's doors. An- other year of lessons, books, and worries. CBut just between you and me, dear diary,-I-Ia, Hall May 11, 1945 Dear Diary, At last it camefOur First Iunior-Senior dance. Gee, those were our First orchids, and confidentially, dear diary, mine was the prettiest one there. May 31, 1945 Dear Diary, Annual came out today. We were sad and gladisad to think of Seniors' leaving and glad to be remembered in their wills. September 10, 1945 Dear Diary, Don't you think we deserve a cheer? Why? YVe are now dignified Seniors. Well, anyway, we're Seniorsl April 19, 1943 Dear Diary, Act III, Scene 1111 brought down the curtain on our senior play. Maybe it wasn't to Shakespeare's approval, but, anyway, we did our best. October 8, 1946 Dear Diary, Today we received our senior rings. No, the sparkles that kept hurting your eyes weren't falling stars. That was just the flashing of our rings in the sun to get attention. February 6, 1946 Dear Diary, Today we were measured for our caps and gowns. Gosh, until today I didn't really believe Seniors had the big-head, but I guess the tape-measure didn't lie. May 31, 1946 Dear Diary, Well, graduation night is here. There are 129 of us to graduate. Lifel We've been long together Through pleasant and through cloudy weather, 'Tis hard to part when friends are dear, Perhaps 'twill cost a sight, a tear. And if there be 128 other tears falling tonight, there is no :oncealed shame. Instead, we lift our proud heads, For heart and voice would fail me, and foolish tears would flow.
