CLASS HISTORY The highschool journey ofthe class of '56 began on September 8, 1952 with Mrs. LaSitis and Mr. King as our advisors. We had forty-nine mem- bers fromwhich were elected at our first classrneeting Barbara Gaiser, President: Jerry Risch,Vice President: Leona Anthony, Secretary, and Bonnie Cousins, Treasurer. Chosen as our motto, colors, and flower were: Forward ever, back- ward never , rose and gray, and the lily-of-the-valley, respectively. In November of our freshman year a bakesale was held as our money raising project. Amonthlater onDecember 29, we sponsored the Fresh- men Snowball, an informal teen-age dance with music furnished by Andy Yaricks. During this school year, we had two classmates leave us. With summer come and gone, our second step in high school left with us forty-four classmates. Our new advisor was Mr. Gillung. At our first classmeetinganew rule was passed, restricting each student to only one year in succession in an office. Elected under this enforcement were William Benton, President: William McCue, Vice Presidentg Luana Moorhead, Secretary, and Paula Walker, Treasurer. Athree month summer vacation brought us back as knowledge-seek- ing bright-eyed juniors. This year, we knew, would be a busy one and a progressive one, too, we hoped. Our newly elected officers were Donald McCoy, Presidentg Jerry Risch, Vice Presidentg Bonnie Cousins, Secretary, Barbara Gaiser, Treasurer. We held a few record hops to make things brighter. And under the supervision of our advisors, Mr. Good and Mr. Kiel we held a bakesale and a candy sale to make money. With Mr.Good's earnest help, our play, The Campbells Are Coming, was a great success. It was given in the early spring. Like the years before, the juniors honored the seniors with a banquet and prom, both held at the Country Club. We discovered in August, when school began again, we had only 38 classmates, with Mrs. LaSitis in charge of the senior homeroom. As our officers we chose William Benton, Presidentg William Reed, Vice President, Luana Moorhead,Secretaryg Paula Walker, Treasurer. A selected committee chose as our senior play Cupid in Pigtails, a farce in three acts, directed by Mrs. LaSitis and assisted by Mr. Mc- Cleary. With the year flying on, Baccalaureate and Commencement will soon be here, and the Class of'56 wishes to say Good bye for we are enter- ing a world of new adventures. 31
