BOYS BASKETBALL Prospects for a successful 41 42 basketball season were very good even from the beginning of school since we were to have back six lettermen from the previous season ln addition to some valuable reserves When school started however one letter man was missing and one reserve from the previous squad Sad news was also to be ours as one of our most ardent fans Louis Nlauthe was seriously injured in an automobile accident Louis was more than a fan He was a sports reporter prophet manager and spectator deluxe all in one His interest and influence was sadly missed Nine successive games were ton before tasting defeat East Brady Elder all beaten by large scores Dayton was beaten twice with some difficulty in the first game when we won by two points Winfield with Keasey playing a great offensive game proved a hard nut to crack but fell by a narrow margin of one pomt Evans City a W P l A L representative and leader in their section then met and defeated us on our ovsn floor 38 22 Shooting ability was much lack ing in the last half for us while Marburger of Evans City seemed to have all kinds of luck in scoring 22 of hrs teams points Victory was ours again but only for a brief spell. Brum and Lhicora were met and defeated by large margins and then defeat came again. Perhaps our hardest blow was when we were beaten by only one point by Karns City who later became champions of the Butler County League. On the Evans City floor in a game in which we were in the running right up until the end and in which captain Benton iheld sharpshooter Marburger to ten points victory was not to be ours' we fell 4l-33. Rimersburg Winfield Penn Concord Bruin and Chicora were then met and defeated in order. The majority of the wins were by large margins' largest of which was the 70-I2 score of the Concord game. The last game of the season was one long to be remembered. If we won we could tie Karns City for the league lead and championship of our section. The shooting ability of Beck and Salsgiver was too much for us however and we-fell 33-24 Our ability to locate the hoop in the second half was once again a difficulty we could not overcome. In the Armstrong County tournament we were defeated by Freeport. the winner of the tournament' and then in the consolation game by Kittanmngs veteran team. Our record for the season stood at I7 wins and 4 losses and two losses in tournament play. Five players will be lost by graduation, and five will be back for next season, we hope. I I - i i E . .
