SOPHOMORE CLASS HISTORY As the clock struck nine on September 3 i940 fifty-one buck privates were registered as freshmen to take on the duties of high school students under the command of Colonel Stockdale with the stage as our barracks Since that time the present enrollment i' forty-nine. The officers were commissioned as follows: President ......... ............... D ale Lewis Vice President . . . . . . George Gaiser Treasurer ...... . . . Eleanor Collar Secretary ...... .... L ois Leard Chaplain .....................,.... Paul Long The parts of the school year which brought joy to the regiment were the furloughs: Institute Thanksgiving Christmas and Easter. To the army activi- ties the freshmen contributed three girls to the girls basketball team two boys to the boys basketball team and eleven girls to the girls glee club. On May I4 I94I the regiment held its party in the gymnasium. At the beginning of the party we had a scavenger hunt. During the latter part of the evening we enjoyed several other games. After serving refreshments we left looking for- ward to the sophomore hop which was to 'be held the following Saturday evening. After struggling through the examinations, we all rejoiced as our summer furlough came around again. ln the autumn of '41, the sophomore class again halted their regiment at Worthington West Franklin High School with their commissioned officers: President ........................ Mont Bowser Vice President ................... George Gaiser Treasurer ................ ...... a mes Henry Secretary .......................... Lois Leard We have contributed three girls to the girls' glee club and six boys to the boys' chorus. Eight girls and two boys have given their services to the basketball team. One 'member 'belongs to the Varsity W club and two are cheer-leaders. Qur commissioned officer, Colonel Vinton, left to command a regiment in another part of the state and Colonel Tuhovak was assigned to be our superior. We hope to keep the regiment colors, blue and gold, brightly waving throughout the entire period of service. two buck privates have joined the regiment, and four others have left it: hence 5 ' I J
