JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY Our ship of learning set sail on September 3 I939 with the crew divided. Mr. Kyle was captain of twenty-five members in one stateroom and Mrs. Mc- Cullough was co-captain with thirty-seven in another After we became or- ganized our officers were Dorothy Bargerstock president' Charles Ruth vice- president- Juanita Claypoole secretary' Edgar Leard treasurer. We embarked on two exciting events during the year. Everyone arrived on ship came to port for summer vacation we held a treasure hunt. ln September of l940 we took our trusty little barque from dry-doclc and chartered a new and better course. We elected officers again who were Bette Fullerton president' Edgar Leard vice-president' Marilyn Shearer treasurer' and Dorothy Bargerstock secretary. A few days of rough ,ailing were caused by several cases of infantile paralysis. We were also delayed in many ports by the holidays but we always began our voyage much refreshed On May I7 we locked our books in the brig and held a sophomore hop. Retiring again below deck we resumed our course over the knowledge 'waves anchoring on une 4 to store provisions for our sailing in the following September. An early start was made this year on September 2, ibut we found our crew greatly diminished. We gave contributions to the army, the CCC, and even the nuptial plane. Others were employed, and still others left our ranks to join different ships of learning. We are now thirty-nine in number. Our officers for this year are Edgar Leard, president: Dorothy Bargerstock, vice-president Marilyn Shearer, secretary: Robert Foringer, treasurerg lla Benton, chaplain and Thomas Peterson tax collector On April I7 everyone rolled out on deck to make the junior play a success The play was titled Spring Fever. Mr. Leard was our very able director The unior-Senior Prom, held on May I5, was another diversion from our maps and charts. We had an orchestra on board for entertainmentg while everyone appeared, dressed in his best bib and tucker Winding up our curriculum for the year, thirty-nine seasiclc gobs trudged hopefully down the gangplank for a short vacation beginning in May. Next September we -hope to see our entire crew on board with their smiling faces peering from the port-holes. We are all going to strive for a higher berth deck for a Ha'llowe'en party, sponsored by the seniors. On the day before our . J ' X J D So , . ' Vg ,. l . . . . 'anchors aweigh!
