On October 15, 1986 the student body congratulated the ladies who were chosen as the Court Representa- tives for Homecoming 1986. April Gam- ble, chosen to represent the Junior class said I felt wonderful that day and it was an honor to be on the Homecoming Court for two years. The atmosphere was greatf' Homecoming excitement began October 24, 1986. What a week! What fun! What memories! Spirit Week led up to the Homecoming activities. Throughout the week, the Stu- dent Leadership Committee sold balloons to determine which class had the most spirit. The sophomores bought 5127.75, giving them top billing in the spirit depart- ment. Another contest was held between clubs to see which could make the most attractive banner for the football game. The Key Club took first place with their banner stating, Titans, We're Keyed Up For You. Friday afternoon a pep rally was held in the football stadium to get the football team prepared for the battle with undefeated Davie. Finally, 8:00 P.M. arrived. After indi- vidual introductions of Senior players, the football team approached the field and broke the banner. At that moment the 250 helium balloons sold for Spirit Week were released into the air by Titanides and fans. Rising to the occasion, the night had just begun. The Homecoming game was one of the most exciting games of the season. West Forsyth would carry the title of conference champions by defeating Davie, which they did 24-17. The half time activities were great fun for everyone. All members of the court for Homecoming '86 were escorted to the field by their date for the evening. O.K. West donated a white arch for the event, and Marie's Florist donated all the flowers for the special occasion. Mrs. Judy Felder, one of many coordinaters of Homecoming, felt like 'glt was very successful and the student body represented themselves well. Without the participation, time, and effort of several other teachers, Homecoming would not have gone over as smoothly. Every class was represented on the court. Presentation began with the Fresh- men and led up to the Senior court mem- bers. Each Senior court member was es- corted off the field into one of the nine cars provided by the Corvette Club and parents. Mrs. Marvorene Edwards said, Having the automobiles brings back the spirit of Homecoming, and it emphasized the importance of Senior girls. Mrs. Cin- dy Zimmerman spent many hectic days lining up the cars for the event and re- marked, I enjoyed working with the '86 Homecoming Court because everyone worked so well together, and also it is so important to those who are nominated. The Homecoming Court was not pre- sented again at the dance as had been done in previous years. Instead, Once, Twice, Three Times A Lady', by Lionel Richie was dedicated to them. The night ended with a bang when balloons were released from the top of the gym. Decorations were taken home as souvenirs. The feeling and memories of Homecoming would not soon be forgotten. 2lfHomecom1ng

Bottom left, Sophomores: Joey Agee, Sean Kelly, Octavius Smith, Cullen Howell, and Todd Haglan. Bottom right, Freshmen: Mike Esposito and Mike Parker. By Merrily Taylor now, snow, and more snow should have been the theme of Backward Homecoming 1987. The court was expected to be presented on January 30, during halftime of the Varsity basketball game against Mt. Tabor. Unfortunately due to almost two feet of snow, it was postponed. This was the second year that West had a Backward Homecoming Court, and it was a great success. On February 6, 1987 the Backward Homecoming Court was presented. A huge crowd filled the gymna- sium and everyone was excited. Backward Homecoming was an opportunity to re- verse rolls and honor the guys. There was some discussion between the members of the court on whether or not there should be a king. When Dennis Warren was asked about having a king, he replied, I feel pretty good about not having one. The students elected the court and it shouldn't be bro- ken down anymore. On the other hand, there were a few guys who felt having a king and queen at homecoming is a tradition, and a tradition they would like to reinstate. Since this was only the second year of an all-male court, there were mixed feelings about the event. Jerry Markus replied, It was embar- rasing at first, but now I don't mind. I considered it an honor. When Dennis Warren was asked how he felt he said, I was really surprised to hear my name, but I felt really good inside. Cortney Porter and Karen Swaringen headed the committee in charge of the event, which was sponsored by SLC. Back- ward Homecoming was suggested last year by Ray Hunt, a member of SLC. Students have responded to the idea of an all-male court tremendously. Backward Homecoming could continue to grow into one of the many traditions here at West Forsyth. As Cortney Porter put it, It is some- thing different and fun! Backward Homecom1ngf23 ,.f-f w ,r
