A LITTLE All photos by Rob Harris AROUND THE EDGE But With Four Returning Lettermen And The Team's Most Valuable Player, Titan Golf Was On A Role By Mark Cartner Most people know Mr. Denny Zeiters by the position he assumes every fall. However, being equated with the head coach's job for the varsity football team is not the extent of his endeavors. Coach Zeiters also serves as the Head Golf Coa- ch every spring. This year, Coach Zeiters fielded anoth- er competitive team. Last year's squad took second in the conference and mir- rored that performance in the city-county tournament. Returning from that team were four lettermen, most notably, David Summers, the team's most vaulable player and the lone member to participate in the state championships at Chapel Hill in 1986. Picking the eleven players for this year's team was an easy process. In fact, Coach Zeiters didn't have to make a decision. The players decided it for him. They quali- 206fGolf fied for the spots by playing four, nine hole rounds at Tanglewood Golf Course, West's home field . Eleven made it. The other nine will have to wait until next year. Perhaps a little known fact about being on the golf team was the cost just to be put on it. It wasn't free. Commented Coach Zeiters, It gets a little expensive. Each player was required to pay Tanglewood five dollars per day of prac- tice for the use of their course. That wasn't quite full price, but it still came out to fifteen dollars a week for practice time. They practiced every Tuesday, Wednes- day, and Thursday with the matches on Mondays. Competitively speaking, Reynolds, Mt. Tabor, and Davie proved to be the Titans stiffest challenge. But like last year, the team drove, chipped and putted their way to another winning season. it
