Among the many were the Future Farmers of America QFFAJ and the Fu- .ure Homemakers of America CFHAJ. hey provided an organization for stu- ents to develop their skills in many areas. The FHA provides an organization for foung men and women to expand their iomemaking skills, as they work with the Lchool and community. The club consisted if 36 members - 33 girls and three boys. The club sponsor, Mrs. Marvorene Ed- vards, replied, We have an excellent group to work with and I think it will be an :xciting year. When Sherri Mclnnis was asked how the felt about the FHA club she said, It is 1 fun club to be in and the things that I earn in FHA will be helpful to me in the 'uturefi Being a member of the FHA is not as :asy as it seems. This group took on many tctivities throughout the year. Each year .he club works long hours to plan and put .ogether a booth for the Dixie Classic Fair. his year's theme was Teen Pregnancy . lso, a faculty luncheon was provided to tionor the teachers at West. Among their 'nany projects, the sponsors had a Christ- nas party for the club, December 14, 1986, at Western Steer. l In addition, the members established a hl50.00 scholarship for a student planning Jn majoring in Home Economics. The West Forsyth FHA has continually shown support to the school and communi- ty through on-going and special projects throughout the year. Along with the FHA, the Future Farm- ers of America also had a busy calendar for the year. FFA is an organization pro- viding young men and women a chance to expand thier agriculture skills. The FFA students work in many areas around the school and community while they keep the grounds of West and Southwest looking neat. Keeping the grass mowed and the trees and bushes trimmed is a very hectic but enjoyable job, says Marti Bowen. The new flower beds that had been add- ed to the campus at West were also provid- ed by the FFA. Over the Christmas holi- days, the FFA provided Christmas trees for the staff at West and to some elders in the community. Future Farmers of America had many goals to strive for this year. Many different kinds of degrees could be given to these members. The main four were: the Green- hand Award, the Chapter Farmer Award, a State Farmers Award, and an American Farmers Degree. The FFA at West has already received the National Superior Chapter Awardf' Along with working for awards, the FFA had a very busy schedule set for the year of 1986-'87. In September they had a membership drive. This showed a success- ful turnout of 97 members. A Chapter cookout was held for the members also in September. In October, the FFA prepared two booths for the Dixie Classic Fair. The two booths were on Forestry and Live- stockf' November was a very busy month for the FFA. The ordering of the fruit for the Citrus Sale and Thanksgiving baskets were taking place. With these fund raisers, the FFA sold 51,500.00 worth of citrus fruits. The money collected from this sale provided a 550.00 scholarship to any FFA member who planned to further hisfher education in agriculture. The new year began with a longer list of plans for the FFA. There were ten Profi- ciency and individual FFA awards given out in connection with the Federation Overall Banner Systems. The FFA was in- volved with the Southern Farm Show in Raleigh during the following month. During March the FFA was involved in a Soil judging project, a management con- test, and their landscaping project, that was sponsored by R.J. Reynolds, had fi- nally come to an end. In the month of May there was an elec- tion held by the FFA to elect Chapter officers. A camp was provided for these newly elected officers to show their skills and learn new ones. Both the FFA and FHA have been very successful through the year. The record stands to show that without the Future Homemakers and Future Farmers of America the halls and campus of West Forsyth would never be the same. FFA-FHAfl65

KICKING IN THEIR TIME AND EFFORT: These seven girls are a special part of the Titanide history. They were the first sophomore Titanides. Their talent was displayed on the team for three consecutive years. They are: Lori Hutchins, Erica Riefenburg, Jodi Poteat, Debbie Weatherman, Lisa Wooton, An- gela Wagoner, and Devan Walsh. NOTHING BEATS A GREAT PAIR OF LEGS: Shannon Pugh said, The best part of being a chore- ographer is the feeling of self-satisfaction when you see 49 other girls perform a routine that you have had part in creating. To perfect these routines the Titan- ides put in many long hours of practice. s i s. Debbie Weatherman 166 Titanides tus- its 'ffllS2 I it H l.... ... ...vr ... r..va. p c t , The Movers And Shakers By Debbie Weatherman or twenty three years the Titanides have provided outstanding half- time entertainment during football and basketball game for the West Forsyth crowds. During the 1986-'87 school year, 49 girls practiced four days a week, for an hour-and-a-half each day, in order to con- tinue the Titanide tradition. Three years ago, in May of 1984, when Titanides were chosen, seven of the girls selected were the first sophomore Titan- ides in over ten years. These special girls are graduating seniors with the class of 1987. They are: Lori Hutchins, Jodi Po- teat, Erica Riefenburg, Angela Wagoner, Devan Walsh, Debbie Weatherman, and Lisa Wooton. As sophomores we were more nervous about fitting in with the rest of the group because there were only seven of us, re- called Lisa Wooton as she reminisced on her first year. This was not the only new experience for these girls. They also had the anticipation of their first year at camp. Once again during July 6-9, 1986, the Titanides stayed on campus at Peach Col- lege for four long days of competition. Camp meant many things to the 1986-'87 Titanides. 'gCamp has a way of bringing a large group closer together, said Jennifer Wolfe. The Titanides returned to West with a home routine trophy, a spirit stick, and two Super Star nominees A Shannon Pugh and Devan Walsh. To Devan this was the biggest, happi- est surprise of my life! Both of these girls attended the Honolu- lu Bowl in Hawaii during their Christmas vacation. Needless to say, the 1986-'87 school year has been an exceptional one for the Titanides, especially for the lucky seven. With the help of Miss Mary Currin and choreographers, Shannon Pugh and Amy Phillips, the season held many fond memo- ries for the West Forsyth Titanides.
