TALKING IT OVER: Andy Mueller, Robb Moth- ershed, Donnie Esposito, Jon Liner, David Lipsitz, and Scott Leslie discuss the next Key Club meeting. They were at a meeting of the subcommittees. These meetings could be held any time while general meet- ings were held twice a month. 152fKey Club Photo by Rob Harris MANHOURS FUR MANKI D By Robbie Pettyjohn anhours for Mankind is a pro- gram originally developed by Key Club International as its theme for two years ago. This plan asked each member of the club to donate fifty hours of his own time to the community. After the first year, Manhours for Mankind became the international Key Club theme for the second year since it was so well received. Now, this is KCI,s permanent theme. Every summer Key Club International holds an International convention to es- tablish the officers in this level, as well as all the themes and goals for the upcoming yearj' said President, Andy Mueller. Other activities in which the Key Club was involved include Rainbow Mile, which helps to raise money for Muscular Dis- trophy. Also, Key Club sponsored a Valen- tines Dance which was held after the Mt. Tabor game. They also were active with the Clean and Green program, which helped West win its Clean and Green award again. Mr. Barlow felt that, For the past two years, the Key Club has been the best service club at West. The Key Club is an excellent service organization that gives its members an op- portunity to serve their school and com- munity. It helps to develop certain quali- ties such as leadership and responsibility. But most of all, the Key Club is a lot of fun, stated Andy Mueller.

In addition to serving as Vice Presi- dent for both these organizations Tom was also on the tennis, soccer, and swim teams. His busy schedule also included National Honor Society and Ski Club membership. SLC TUNES IN ON SCHOOL SPIRIT: During the Football season all clubs and organizations entered a homecoming banner contest. Each club made banners representing what their club stood for as they cheered Photo by: Mr. Mike Willi on the team. SLC's banner was made by Trent Jarvi Melody Davis, and Michelle Morgan. Teachers, Mi Penny Craver and Mr. Louis Newton, judged the ba ners. SLC won recognition in the school newspaper Follo The Leaders By Deborah Freeman nder the leadership of Donnie Esposito, SLC began making plans for the 1986-87 school year, in the spring of '86. SLC served as a governmental body for the school activities. Membership was based on voluntary involvement of stu- dents in which certain academic qualifica- tions had to be met. Many other schools in the system had membership based on a signature ballot. When students were asked, some preferred the voluntary in- volvement because the students were more enthusiastic with the tasks. Barbie Green stated, I think the volun- tary membership is really great. SLC provided an outlet for leadership abilities and helped its members to perfect these abilities. 154fSLC For the 208 members of SLC, the main goal was to form a better leadership posi- tion and to lessen the service club role. West Forsyth's Student Leadership Committee was responsible for introduc- ing activity ideas in which the students would participate. They sponsored and or- ganized the first Freshman Open House, on Tuesday, August 26, 1986. Students, parents, and faculty were invited to attend. This gave old friends an opportunity to reacquaint themselves with each other and a chance for teachers to meet some par- ents. Each guest was given an opportunity to familiarize himself with the campus and its facilities. When LeAnne Mitchell was asked how she felt SLC could have improved its ser- vice for the student body, she replied, I feel that they do a good job, but just do more for the upperclassmenf' SLC also sponsored a computer dating service on Valentines day, Big-Brotherf Big-Sister program, and Backwards Homecoming, which was held during bas- ketball season. During May, the student body officers were elected for the 1987-'88 school year. In the spring of '87, SLC sponsored Senior Nightv, in which a slide show recaptured events of the year. Scott Reed's reply when asked what the most important thing SLC did this year was, 'fl feel SLC's most important thing was 'Senior Night'. The Student Leadership Committee provided a lot of fun and excitement for the student body throughout the 1986-87 school year, and successfully accom- plished each of their carefully set goals.
