As the summer began, nany West students were attending the Bing Crosby Golf Tournament held June 3-8 at Bermuda Run. The temperature registered a blistering iinety degrees outside, but thousands of eople came out to see their favorite stars ompete for charity. Describing the golf tournament, junior, Brandon Lemons said, 'It was very entertaining and humorous because many of the celebrities were asso- ciating with the crowd instead of playing golf. Among the many famous faces at the Crosby were singer Pat Boone, comedian OTHERS Bob Hope, actors Hal Linden from the T.V. series Barney Miller and Pat Peter- son from Knots Landing, Chicago Bulls basketball player, Michael Jordan, UNC head coach, Dean Smithg Governor Jim Martin, and Bing Crosbyis widow, who brought the golf tournament to North Carolina. Kim Kausch, a junior at West, summed it up with a bit of excitement, It really was a great experience. I didn't get to see much golf because I was too busy working at the Crosby. The nice thing about that was getting to socialize with the stars after their game of golf. In addition to attending the Crosby, many students put an end to a great sum- mer by vacationing in hot spots like Myrtle Beach, Washington D.C., Hawaii, and New York City. One such trip involved West Forsyth Girl Scouts in troop number 437. Teresa Shutt, Kelle Owens, Dawn Carter, Carol Samuelson, Sherri Humph- ries, Kathy Morton, Frances Dodson, and others spent four days in Washington D.C. Senator Jesse Helms took the troop on a private tour of the capitol building. As the summer drew to a scorching end, sophomore Keely Norton reflected the thoughts of many West students, CLastj summer was great. I had a lot of fun. The only thing is that it went by too fastf' With the summer of 1987 close at hand, students can now look forward to more time off from school. Some will head back to Myrtle Beach to celebrate another long awaited graduation, while others will head off to a long day at work. The much antici- pated summer will soon be upon us and students can enjoy the best summer yet. Summer 86 1 l

HI- By Jennifer Hauser and Kammy Eggleston s you turn over to check the time, you realize your alarm clock, set for 6:00, never went off. It is now 5:45 and you have 20 minutes to get ready for school. In a mad dash to the closet, you find that everything is in the dirty clothes. You grab your Coca-Cola rugby shirt, a pair of old Levis, and your Hi-Top Ree- boks. Now you are ready to go. Oh! Don't forget those school books. Sound familiar? This was a typical morning for many students throughout the year. Coca-Cola shirts, Hi-Top Reeboks, and jeans were a common yet comfortable sight at West. Melanie Byrd says, 'SFash- Mr. CO. Matthews FASHION ion isn't what you wear, but how you wear it. Many factors go into what makes up fashion, colors, style, fabric, and comfort. Everybody at West had that Hi-Top spirit. Bringing back crew cuts from the 50's, Greg Tuttle says, Crew cuts are much cooler and Qcoining a new wordj authentically emorphilatingf' The casual look of clothes and the crew cuts coordi- nated well together. Shorts were once again permitted at West. Girls felt comfortable wearing box- ers under their jams or shorts, which was a switch. Fron head to toe, no matter what you wore you were decked out with style. Look around. Fads were everything. Fads were you. CA - CA - CATCH THE WAVE! Joey Messick and Stephanie Jones prove Coca-Cola, not Pepsi, is the choice of our generation, at least as far as clothes are concerned. The Coke label could be found on miniskirts, jeans, tee-shirts, and button-down shirts. tw vw fi vmwll 'W ilr '- i'.1i4ifPl -W0MtHftilQit,2ptwfrr,wt,1-:tri Mt what - fQ,ws'f214lg.' lid- 'r ,'pll,Ql'pM,e,v' -Mr!
