'cfs- Photo by Neil Millsap Photo by Rob Harris ARRI E ALI by Lauren Eichler s the year progressed, approxi- mately one hundred and fifty Stu- dents Against Driving Drunk CSADDJ strived desperately for one main goal - to create an awareness of the seri- ousness of drinking and driving. Our main purpose is to show people that drinking and driving does not pay,', said Piper Lee. We're not particularly against drinking, just driving drunkf' At SADD,s weekly meetings, members explored ways to communicate their con- cern to others. Among the projects SADD sponsored were: setting up a billboard in Winston-Salem, holding a bake sale to raise funds for their projects, and taping a WXII-TV commercial encouraging every- one to stop drinking and driving. Along with these projects, they also made Don't Drink and Drive flyers which they peri- odically placed on cars in the student parking lot. I believe our projects have made people more aware of the dangers of drinking and drivingf, stated Suzanne Binkley. I think SADD has helped the commu- nity greatly by the things that they have done because we have fewer alcohol-relat- ed accidents and more alcohol-related convictions, replied Touron Gilreath. In their efforts to create an awareness of how serious drinking and driving really is, they were successful. They aimed at mak- ing a difference in the way people reacted to the thought of drinking and driving. As any SADD member would say, Think twice before you drink and drive?
