From June S-15 they took in the beau- tiful sights, the sun, and the fun together with their family. DOWNTOWN: Leatha Houston takes a ride on one of New York's subways. Leatha spent three weeks in New York with her aunt and uncle. She visited many famous sights such as Radio City Music Hall, The Apollo Theater, and two famous night clubs, the Paladium and the Area. They and about ten other Girl Scouts from Troop 437 spend four days gauging the many historical sights of Washington, SUMMER BETTER THAN Sy Terri Hodges t might have been one of the hottest summers in North Carolina's history, but it did not stop West students from raving a good time. As the summer began, nany West students were attending the Bing Crosby Golf Tournament held June 3-8 at Bermuda Run. The temperature registered a blistering iinety degrees outside, but thousands of eople came out to see their favorite stars ompete for charity. Describing the golf tournament, junior, Brandon Lemons said, 'It was very entertaining and humorous because many of the celebrities were asso- ciating with the crowd instead of playing golf. Among the many famous faces at the Crosby were singer Pat Boone, comedian OTHERS Bob Hope, actors Hal Linden from the T.V. series Barney Miller and Pat Peter- son from Knots Landing, Chicago Bulls basketball player, Michael Jordan, UNC head coach, Dean Smithg Governor Jim Martin, and Bing Crosbyis widow, who brought the golf tournament to North Carolina. Kim Kausch, a junior at West, summed it up with a bit of excitement, It really was a great experience. I didn't get to see much golf because I was too busy working at the Crosby. The nice thing about that was getting to socialize with the stars after their game of golf. In addition to attending the Crosby, many students put an end to a great sum- mer by vacationing in hot spots like Myrtle Beach, Washington D.C., Hawaii, and New York City. One such trip involved West Forsyth Girl Scouts in troop number 437. Teresa Shutt, Kelle Owens, Dawn Carter, Carol Samuelson, Sherri Humph- ries, Kathy Morton, Frances Dodson, and others spent four days in Washington D.C. Senator Jesse Helms took the troop on a private tour of the capitol building. As the summer drew to a scorching end, sophomore Keely Norton reflected the thoughts of many West students, CLastj summer was great. I had a lot of fun. The only thing is that it went by too fastf' With the summer of 1987 close at hand, students can now look forward to more time off from school. Some will head back to Myrtle Beach to celebrate another long awaited graduation, while others will head off to a long day at work. The much antici- pated summer will soon be upon us and students can enjoy the best summer yet. Summer 86 1 l

LOVE LETTERS IN THE SAND: Many students leave behind the memories of the good times they had at Myrtle Beach.
