I say these words in gentleness today, And stretch my hand in tenderness to you. What is a friend? Is he just one who shares a moment's laughter, Or holds you to a certain rigid scheme? Ah, no! My friend is one who takes each note that falls And makes of them a song to fit my dream. What of my faults? I shall not know whate'er they be, For you'll not point them out for me to see. But I shall walk a nobler, sweeter path Because my friend has faith and trust in me. And so I say once more, You are my friend. . . And for this cause l'd fight or live or die! It serves as a great method of conditioning for other sports, and for me, was a lot of fun. The 1974 season was a very memorable one. We almost literally started from scratch, but through a lot of effort became a reasonably successful team by the end of the season. We wanted to prove to others and mostly ourselves that we could do it, and even though the work was easy, we achieved a certain amount of success throughout the year. Long distance running is sometimes tedious and dull, but our team was very closely knit, and we enjoyed working together in becoming a better team. All in all, the season was fun and rewarding and I thank Coach Dhanke for all he did- without his efforts it wouldn't have been possible for us to achieve what we did. iqmi Yjdififx T4-C ROSS COUNTRY Shut up, Leonard. . .the Pup. . .the Marty Special . . . Xe This year was a pretty good one, as far as the Packer was concerned. I think we put out some good issues. Iwas espe- cially pleased with the edito- rial page. The newspaper staff worked hard to put out a good paper, and they did. The only thing that was lacking, as in years past, was reader contribu tions. There were only a few instances when anyone wrote a letter to the editors. We will publish almost anything, with- in reason, as long as it is sign- ed. It is dissappointing to hear so many criticisms and strong opinions hom people who lack the gumption to put their views in print. The power of print is mighty, indeed. One can get more across to more people by having something printed than in any other way. A letter to the editors is a good way to get something in the paper, but by no means is it the only way. The Packer staff would gladly welcome any other contribu- tion you might have. A short article on some activity, a coming event, or some other story would be appreciated not only by the staff, but by the readers. It gets a little tiring to read stories written by the same people in every issue. A change of style would be wel- comed by everyone. If you want to have a good paper, it is going to take more than just a small group of people can contribute. It is easy to crit- provlde information about their activities. One usually thinks of such a trip solely as a vacation, but mine was not-rather, it was a genuine learning experience My memories began with an eight-month waiting period from the time I applied until I learned that I could go Afterwards, of course, there was joyg quick preparations to leaveg and then fear concerning what I had gotten myself into. After I left home, the time started to fly. First I was in awe of New York, and then when I got to Germany, it took me a couple of weeks just to get used to the fact that I was really there. I finally settled into my family life, where I spoke only German for two entire months. I met many wonderful people and had equally wonderful times. The hardest and saddest time was when I had to leave. It was then that I fully understood and felt a part of the German way of life. The time had pass passed much too quickly. I suppose that I am one of the lucky few who have All of my experiences added up to a summer which was better than any vacation, an experience in which the many benefits and the knowledge gained are immeasurable-and also one filled with lasting memories. How different in 1946 when I started as a teacher and principal. The com- plete high school faculty was made up of 8 teachers including the Supt. and Principal. This is quite a difference from the 43 we now have. When I started in West Fargo we had plenty of classrooms - even a couple extra. Those were the days! Time marches on. One of my pleasant times was the year I was honor- ed by having the Yearling dedicated to me 119553. At that time we had 12 teachers and in 1958 a secretary was hired. In 1959 I gave up being a principal - 12 years at that job. Oh my! School kept growing and more teachers were hired. Years went by-then came new ideas in teaching. Modular scheduling, con- tracts, commons, resource centers fwithout taking rollj workin for a broader education in many different ways. Thinking about it I wonder - were all these changes good? I do hope they are. I am coming to the end of my wonderful teaching career. I have enjoyed it and I hope with my help that these many students could profit a little with the help that I have given them through the years. INDUSTRIAI FIRST A10 KIT To learn and never be filled, is wisdomg To teach and never be weary, S112-MR. TED mms is love. YISVGF3 Since I have been here I have learned how to talk and understand better. This make me happy. But the thing that makes my happier is that all of you at West Fargo High School have helped me. Not only with the language but also in other fields, you are my firends The smiles that I see in the hallways and in classes mean more than the words that you can say and most of the time I don't understand. The subjects that I am taking are just great I don't know if it is the subjects themselves or because the teachers are nifle- I k1'l0W that some of you do not agree with me, but to those I want to tell that you must consider your selves fortunate to have somebody that teaches you. My country is so poor that they can't even afford teachers and schools which are the bases for education and living. Something that I will never forget is my first speech in Speech class. At the beginning I was nervous, my glasses began to slide down my nose, my legs shook. Yes, I was nervous, but not be cause of you, my classmates, but because it was the first time in my life I was in front of a class talking of my country. You understood me which made me feel great. Now my favorite subject SNOW is beautiful, the word is really little in comparison to what it is for me. When I see it it seems to me like I am just looking at a beautiful picture, is impossible to believe that I can touch it, that I can play with it. IS FUN. I had the opportunity to meet different families, to be in different groups and clubs, and in all of them I had been received well. I didn't think that I would find person like you here You are really, really nice people. I am happy to be here, as a West Fargo High School student, as Mr. and Mrs. Krogh's daughter, Nancy's sister and like your friend, For all of you my best wishes of success and my great thanks for everything Friendship Can Only Be Purchased by Friendship SUE VITERI-113 x , . lp l 3 .
