' After pondering exactly what I was going to say for this page, a student reminded me of something I had been telling him all during football season, ya gotta wanna to be ffl at anything. You ask, what does ya gotta wanna mean? It sounds like the language of someone who hasn't taken his English grammar seriously or at best needs elocution lessons. Those three words have more meaning when you apply them to your classroom work, to your performance on the athletic field, and most importantly, to your goals in life. We all, teachers, administrators, coaches, and students, want to be successful, but the degree to which we succeed is often times neglected because we didn't WANT badly enough. We didn't have the discipline, the pride, nor were we willing to make the sacrifices necessary to carry out our wants to the ends where we would be successful I Today in our society it is very easy to find the path of least resistance. Why hassle, why go to all that trouble, nobody cares, so why should I break my back? This is a question that is never asked, but is always being answered. Why should you care? . I can't answer that question for you. But this I do know. The people who are on this faculty care about you and what the future holds for you. That's why some of them break their backs trying to inform you of their experiences, successes, and yes, even failures. They are only human with human feelings and accomplishments. Be kind to them as they try to be kind to you. Don't ever be satisied with mediocrity. Do the best that you can no matter what the task. Want to be the best! Need to have the fulfillment of giving the task that you attempt your best shot. To fail after trying, after giving all you possibly can whether by going that extra lap or by putting in that extra hour of studying or by pushing yourself to the limits, isn't really failing. That's success, because you' know that you've tried your hardest. What more could anyone ask? At the risk of sounding like I'm preaching which I really don't want to do, and the chance that the words I choose are out-dated, phony, or whatever, remember this: we have the opportunity to change the world in these halls and classrooms. Let's for God's sake and the world's, not let that chance pass us by.
