Shaping Up FIT-IN-TRIM: Seniors Diane Rossinow and Phil Bomhoff strut their stuff in the library. The desire to look good. Everybody wants to look decent enough to a) impress and b) attract. It's that simple. Feeling good is not an honest goal. One cannot possibly sense any joy after lifting 250-lbs. or aerobicizing for 45 minutes. Sweat and pain do not stir any images of fun, nor does the thought of sore muscles the day after. Yet, many people continue to exercise and look good, all for the sake of others. It's inspiring and encouraging that so many are attending the gym, but... if you can't impress your friends and attract a member of the opposite sex, you must be doing something wrong. NO CONTRACT. . . When a large mass of teachers and guidance counselors congregate in the parking lot with the buses, it's obvious that something is wrong. At the beginning of this school year, there was definitely something wrong — teachers salaries. Negotiations throughout the summer could not resolve the griev- ances of the teachers, and the time was quickly approaching for a major strike. October 1. This date was posted on many bulletin boards around the school. Teachers wore stickers (remember No contract but still working? ) and attended the board meetings, as did the students and parents, surprisingly. However, it was not only the teachers who were complaining. A petition listing the grievances of the students, especially those of the senior class, was posted on the Student Voice bulletin board and, later, was presented at a Board meeting. Luckily enough (?), the students did not lose any school days and the problems were finally resolved. West Essex has still not seen a strike ... yet. MOREY ON THE MOVE: Mr Bobrow lobbies (or what he believes in. EVERYTHING IS PROGRESSING NICELY: President of the Board of Edu- cation, Dr. Edward Rubin, expresses the Board's opinion. 26 STUDENT LIFE
