STUDENTS BEHIND THE WHEEL LICENSES AROUND THE CORNER Seniors Lisa EmcRe ' and Roden DEmiiio fulfill then Behind-the-Wheei requirements When This class is in session, your pencils don't need sharpenmg-your reflexes dol Many West Essex students take advantage of the free Behind- the-Wheel program offered outside the school's curriculum. Young drivers are instructed by Wessex physical education teachers during morning studies, after school, and Saturday mornings This instruction not only consists of actual behind-the- wheel training but also simulated driving. Student drivers are taught the key elements in- volved in becoming a safe driver In addition, students learn the techniques of parallel parking, three-point turns, and highway driving. Everyone is made aware of the importance of the newly enacted seat belt law and all of its benefits. This year's Driver Ed students have the use of 4 Driver's Ed cars, all of which are brand new. All cars are equipped with an emergency foot brake for the instuctors (just in case!). After having successful- ly completed Driver Education, future licensed drivers practice their driving skills until the fateful day at the Department of Motor Vehicles finally arrives. 23
