MILESTONE WEST ESSEX HIGH SCHOOL North Caldwell, New Jersey Volume 16, 1976 3 5 DEDICATION 6 It is with the utmost admiration and heartfelt appreciation that the 1976 MILESTONE is dedicated to Thomas W. Mullane, a man who has become in his own quiet and humble manner, a guiding light to his many friends and admirers at West Essex. Mr. Mullane is a teacher and advisor who gives to West Essex endless hours of time and everlasting devotion, a man effusive with the spirit of human kindness whose door is open to all those who seek to enter through it, and a friend who is always more than happy to spend time helping others help themselves. All those who have been fortunate to know Mr. Mullane wish to express their gratitude for his efforts and wish him the very best in the future, so that he may continue to inculcate his wit and wisdom upon the members of the West Essex High School community. 7 BICENTENNIAL SALUTE 0 beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain America! America! AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL Why does not time stand still, if only for a moment, to give us the precious seconds lost, trying to remember . . . the growing and the giving of a part of ourselves to each other . . . 11 We move on, yet leave our faint mark upon everything we touch. and some will remember us for they left a part of themselves within us too . . . 14 and although often unnoticed, the impression is there. Sometime, when trying to recall the days gone by, a face will flash before us, and we will know. With a lifetime before us, we realize how brief a time we have spent. and wonder if the crazy things we did will ever seem foolish . . . The time has come to release ourselves, to discover new worlds, to take our dreams and use them, and to part from many people whom we hold dear. 18 Friends are a special part of ourselves, and their smiles will linger through the fog of fading memories. Coach Korfman noted that his squad showed tremendous improvement over the course of the year. Head Coach Fred Keil assessed the 1975 football team in the following way: The '75 team, despite its record, was a team that accomplished much during the season. The players, in particular the 16 seniors, were a fine group to work with and will be remembered for their dedication, loyalty, and determination. Even though many of the 'breaks’ of the game didn't bounce our way, the players demonstrated a willingness to play harder and harder, and were almost rewarded with a Thanksgiving Day upset over Livingston. Congratulations to the players for providing their fans with exciting weekend football and for playing the game with a never-say-die atti- tude.” 126 Head Coach Fred Keil The trenches FOOTBALL 127 West Essex's offense unfolds Quarterback Mark Lore SOPHOMORES Robert Albanese. As the season wore on, however, the Knights lost many tough and frus- trating games to seemingly lesser opponents, and consequently lost all hope for winning a confer- ence championship.
