Dunng my work day every nook and corner of my body IS occup1ed and many a long nrght I thmk of the between class breaks when the1r lovely young volces echo agamst my walls and the tread of therr feet tramples the floor the terr1f1c slammrng of the lockers v1brat1ng through me cmd the sound of the tardy bell settrng off the mad scrambles for the threshold of a classroom I have seen these young folks come and go for many years Ive watched the shy l1ttle seventh grader grow up 1nto the student body presrdent Ive l1stened to the glggle of an e1ghth grade g1rl as she appears wearrng lrpstxck for the frrst trme Ive seen the students delmously happy over an athletlc vrctory and 1n the depths of sadness over a loss Ive glorred as my trophy cases were f1lled wrth scores of troph1es and wept when someone threw a rock ln one of my wrndows and pamted the walls The sen1ors have grown from ch1ldren to young men and young women whlle I have stood by and although I am always sad at graduat1on I know I have done all I can and 1t IS t1me for them to go on I am growmg older now and I may not be as pretty as I once was I certa1nly am not modern and 1n places the palnt IS growlng th1n and the wood becommg battered In these 1n t1meS of trouble I have thrrved on gu1d1ng the young durmg these tzmes and I shall never forget the magmfrcent Splfll and apprecratron and deep down goodness of all who have come to see me I WILL FOREVER have the satlsfactron 1n my heart that I have ltved my hte well and when 1I1S over and on top of my ashes and broken stones stands a new ultra modern burldmg I shall stxll be able to hear the echos of those glor1ous moments But most of all I shall always treasure the srght of my krds r1s1ng on therr feet and wlth tears rn the1r eyes rn one beautlful trlbute to me thelr sweet young volces r1ng1ng out through the land On the c1ty s western border reared agamst the sky Th1s IS my moment of glory for you see I am West End Hlgh School and these kldS are my l1fe SARAH LEE PIGUE l -fl lllrj' I fN?
