I am a bu1ld1ng As a matter of fact a very large bu1ld1ng located on West End Avenue I am really quxte beautlful to some and have an enormous front and back lawn where there 1S a playground a baseball dlamond football held and a park1ng lot all Wllhln my reach It IS qu1te IHXUIIOHS I can assure you They bu1lt me w1th three stones and Im topped off Wllh a lovely tower wh1ch used to ch1me on the hour untxl I began to have vrolent headaches It IS my 1ob to protect my 1nhab1tants from the forces of nature and prov1de them Wlth almost a second home for they are 1n my hands and parents all over the CIIY have great fa1th m me My work day begms on Monday mornmgs ord1nar1ly about 7 30 Mr Chr1stopher 1S f1rst to arr1ve bless h1s heart to warm my cold body He IS followed by the teachers br1ef cases and papers under arms CA wonderful group of people whose great work IS often t1mes unapprecxated but who contlnue to gu1de and love the1r students w1th un bel1evable pat1enceD The last to arr1ve and actually my favontes are the students It has always k1nd of t1ckled me the slow dellberate way they move across my campus only half awake and Seemlng not too exc1ted over the comlng day It remznds me of when I was just a l1ttle fellow myself By m1dmorn1ng everythmg 1S qu1et Ugaln after the confus1on of before school get togethers the announcements and homeroom busmess Everyone 15 safe and snug ut his classroom wxth only the r1se now ar d then of a teachers vo1ce or a class 1n recrtatlon It IS a peaceful t1me for me knowlnq my very purpose of ex1st1nq ts bemg fulhlled Lunch t1me and a free hour to eat or do as the students please It IS fascmatmg to watch some dr1ft off 1n couples dovm the campus some to the l1brary for study a few dawdlmg over food rn the lunchroom or play1ng 1n the yards all preoccupled wxth the1r own thoughts and rel1eved to get therr mmds free for a wh1le M1d afternoon and the strange sweet lazy srlence drrfts back over me and ll IS very peaceful unt1l the loyous moment of the 3 00 bell In drastrc contrast to the way I am occupxed 1n the mormngs I am emptled 1n approxrmately three mtnutes Hurned goodbyes the last slam of the lockers and they are on the1r way A happy t1me for them but sad for me as once agam I am forgotten and as Iwatch them cross the campus drsappeanng 1nto t1ny colored specks boardmg the buses or dr1v1ng off 1n cars I already long for the1r return I always look forward to spec1al n1ghts of games or dances when I am unlocked l1ghted and once agam frlled w1th hte Even on these occas1ons though eventually the t1me comes when all 1S st1ll and the heavy darkness qu1etly steals through me I have heard people remark how beautrful I am at th1s t1me wlth my tower l1ghted and the moon sheddmg a pale mystenous l1ght over me I try to get some rest for I know I have another busy day ahead The week days pass sw1ftly and the lonely week ends arr1ve all too soon For the most part durlng these days I am used as an exh1b1t for Sunday dr1vers or strangers pass1ng through town I cannot walt unt1l Monday when my task begms agam I . 1 1 1 1 ' . . . . . . , . 1 1 1 1 1 v 1 1 . . , , f.
