We hold them above all else in our memories of school days because they have made the greatest sacrifice anyone is capable of making. They have done it so that schools like our West End High may continue to exist, and so that boys and girls like those on the pages oi this annual may always live in an American democracy. These valiant boys will remain as an inspiration for all oi us to serve to our utmost the cause for which they fought and died. To them, we of West End High School humbly. devotedly, and gratefully dedi- cate our 1944 ZEPHYR. Eugene Bahh Sam Brnwnlnwe Harry H. Denham Charles l1nW1tt J. West held a mighty Springfield eleven to a stand-still until the last half of the game, when Springfield surged ahead to victory. Cohn proved an easy victim for the Blues, with Ed McWhorter as captain. The Du- Pont game, a real thriller, resulted in a one- point victory for the opponent. Chagrined by the loss of this game, the Blues de- molished the Central squad. l 421 Bain and mud presented a gloomy aspeot for the North game. Captain Cf. Smith made a spectacular 76-yard dash to a touchdown in the third quarter. The day of the Hillsboro game proved one of the blaclcest in the annals of 'West football history. lndividual performers were plentiful, but the Blues lacked teamwork in the second half.
