We almost hated this name for we were called, The low green Freshies . There were then 23 of us: William Worsley, Jasper Cummings, Julia Bailey, Sarah Pearce, Frank Bulluck, 'Charlie Womble, Lucile Taylor, Lizzie Mae Griffin, Bertha Pitt, George Hagins, Rufus Thomas, George M. Proctor, Ellie Stallings, Lilas Grimes, 'Claudie Pollard, Adelia Edwards, Lessie Daughtridge, Bessie Taylor, Lula Mae Harrelson, Mabel Christopher, Mack Hurdle, Almeta Dickens, J. S. Stanley, and Inez Taylor. The second year of High Schodl, we had a new Principal, Miss Elizabeth Tolbert. We were Sophomores this yiear, but in making this step upward we realized that we had left behind a number of our class. We were clear of the name Freshies and decided we could do as well as any other class in School. Those who did not return with us were: Sarah Pearce, George M. Proctor, and Bessie Taylor. We expected a new High School building before the year was out, but they failed to finish it and we had to continue the year in the crowded hall at Dixie. ' Returning for our Junior year, we had a nice new School Building, West Edgecombe High School. We had the same Principal of whom we were very proud. We had the misfortune of losing two more of our class, George Hagins and Lilas Grimes. After Christmas our -dear Principal did not return. Rev. T. L. Vernon who is still with us took her place. We had three new members to join us after Christmas: Emma Flye, Virginia Smith and Annie Mae Brake. This year we entered with the High flowing and much Honored name of Seniors attached to us, of which we were very proud, but we trust that we have not dishonored that name and that none of our class ever will. We had a new Principal this time, Mr. Geo. W. Lassiter, with Mr. T. L. Vernon, Assistant Principal. This year we found to our sorrow, that we had lost more members of our Class leaving only eleven to really be Honored Seniors , to have privileges, be looked up to, and sit on the stage and look important. And we trust that this select eleven will yet have strength to pass examinations, be preached to and go through the ordeal of sitting on the stage and receive their Diplomas. So I tuned-in on what I thought to be the Great Prophetic Station O-M-E-G-A. I soon got the station, but Static was so strong and hard that I thought for sure that I had tuned-in on Hades , but as soon as the clouds cleared away, I found that the great noise must have been caused by the Electric storm. When all was quiet I heard a voice: Father Time, Speaking, Station Alpha, O-M-E-G-A. I can tell you the Beginning and Ending of 'all things Present and all things that are to come . Then I asked Him to tell me the Goings and Achievements of the class of '25, And he replied: Dear Friend, though your Classmates are far apart we shall think of them for a while together . In My Radio Plane we shall first visit New York. There we find the Bulluck Band, a band of great reputation, playing for the famous New York Broadcasting Station, with Frank Bulluck as Director. We then moved around to The Follies and saw Virginia Smith as star actress in Hatcher Hughes' famous play, 'Hell Bent For Heaven . Inspired by playing boy in Mr. Lassiter's play, The Dip Needle . -Coming back to our Capitol we found Captain Julia Bailey in the Union Station, calling her train, the Florida Special, to leave in ten minutes over the A. C. L. Railroad. At our State Capitol, We found William Worsley as Governor of the Old North State on the Woman Suffrage ticket. Visiting other towns in our State, we found at Greenville Ellie Stallings active President of E. C. T. C. Going west again we found perched on the top of Pilot Mountain, our beloved Class Poet, Bertha Pitt, collecting and compiling a book of her poems, wh-ich was to be sold later for a fortune and be used in the future with the Literary History of North Carolina. 1 On our way to the far west, we chanced to meet Dr. Jasper Cummings, a national lecturer on the Benefit of Public Schools , at Louisville, Ky., arguing with President Mullins, that Evolution should not be taught in the Public Schools . Passing over Reno We spied Mary Brown as matron of the Divorce Orphan- age , playing and Mothering the little unfortunate children. Swinging to the South, We found Rev. 'Champ Calhoun, D.D., among the heathen in South America with his good wife, Eve, doing a great Missionary work for the West Edgecombe Church. Returning to our great State, we had to alight at Charleston, S. C., on account of an Electric storm. We crossed the once Miss Annie Mae Brake and her newly-acquired husband at the Lanier Hotel , whither they had eloped to enjoy their Honeymoon, without fear of being Divorced tIn South Carolinaj. Father Time, of course taught Adelia the secrets of the Radio and Radio- Plane, and she is now director of th-at Course at the Great Duke University. ADELIA EDWARDS, Prophet. 13 K -. 33 F' D . 'Q' JUNIOR CLASS POEM We're the Class of '26. But won't the Juniors be in a fix, If we should shirk and fail to pass, What would become of next Senior Class? If we fail in what we've planned, 'I'hen this Product won't be Canned , We'll be Juniors Again, Oh, Gee! What a Dilema that will be! To hear the Sophs of '25 Shout with Glee, They're not alive , But we'll prove we know the tricks, To make the 'Class of '26, But we are not going to fail, For together we shall sail, Then a passing grade we'll fix, For we're the Class of '26, --Poet and Secretary. 16 rvlv ' A 4' 'T Y ' l ' 4 Q RQAJH ulffl , 0 . 5 ,.......-. . . . ......, ,.-Rumi I4 9 1:76 um., Y.---, v-.... .' +.-..-..-.-- -1.
