Mr. Burns. fore he decides to take part in Edu- cators' Airlift, a special treat to local teachers. The teachers were taken on a half-hour air tour of Pittsburgh district. Betty, the Eastern Airlines hostess, seems to be enioying a chat with West Deer teachers, Mrs. Burns, Mrs. Jaloski, Mr. Jaloski, Mrs. Schuster Mr. Graff checks the pilot cabin be- A particularly active year, beginning with an air flig over Allegheny County and ending with the annual F: nic at North Park, was marked by the West Deer Hi faculty. The airplane ride, termed Educators Airlift, vv provided through the courtesy of Eastern Air Lines. I teachers were given a free ride over Allegheny Coui' to become acquainted with the convenience and ease air travel. ln addition to two picnics at North Park, the teache also observed another social evening when they dine together at the Towne House, Monroeville. Several former W. D. teachers were missing when tt '56-57 term began. These included Mrs. Charles Nag fMiss Penischl and Mrs. Sheila Unruh, who joined tt housewife ranks, Miss l.amonia Moraitis, teaching Athens, Greece, Miss Jennie Bittner, Whitehall schoi district, Boyd King, industry, and Steve Formento, wl' left for active duty with the U. S. Army. New teachers added to the staff this term were Mr Katherine Williams, Mrs. Jack Jaloski, Mrs. Claire Tofan Joseph Salvatore, Richard Graham, David Whartenb' William Utzig, Miss Jolene Cecchini, and Mrs. Norrr Scherer. 5a!zoal,0 ' mae .l - yr CLARENCE E. NORRIS SUPERINTENDENT School and community service seemed to be the by-words of the West Deer administrators during the 1956-57 term. Superintendent Clarence Norris made head- lines by observing conditions in Europe first hand. He toured six European countries during a two-week trip. His interesting reports and observations were well received. I WILLIAM E. BURNS PRINCIPAL Principal William Burns, marking his l4th year as head man at West Deer High School, re- ceived his community's highest award by being selected as the West Deer Citizen-of-the-Year. The honor is bestowed annually by the Lions Club to a West Deer citizen who has demonstrat- ed superior, unseltish civic pride and devotion. DR. BRUNO A. Dr. Bruno Casile again handled the detailed duties pertinent to instruction and guidance. Constantly striving for a betterment of the West Deer educational program, he assisted in pro- moting many of the improvements brought in to the system this year. DIR. or INSTRUCTION GURJANCE
