7aR The school year T956-57W a year of memories, fashions, fads, and progress. This was the year of Elvis Presley, rock and roll, calypso, and romantic ballads. New fashions invaded West Deer. We wore Ivy Leagues, bucks and sad- dles, Bermudas, and car coats. Congestion reigned in our halls because of girls wearing billowing hoops and can cans. Our hair was fashioned in chignons, pony tails, crewcuts, and balboas. The era of girls in jeans and boys in D.A.'s was over, replaced by an era of neatness and snappy dressers. We sighed over Pat Boone, Julie London, Sal Minio, Natalie Wood, Tab Hunter, Kim Novak, Rock Hudson and Anita Ekberg. Still unforgotten was James Dean. Our favorite songs were Hound Dog, Love Me Tender, True Love, Banana Boat Song, and Young Love . In school we were first to have a P. A. system, demerit system, Student Congress, and a Homecoming. The hot spot of the world was centered in the Middle East, meanwhile Hun- garians were fleeing to the borders to escape Communist agression. President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Vice President Richard Nixon were elected to a second term in the White House. The biggest and best news science offered was the discovery of the polio vaccine by Pittsburgh scientist, Jonas Salk. A year to be remembered'-l956-57. James Dean Elvis Presley 7 7UU'3 I 14 Ween
