Class History The doors of Yvest Deer High welcomed us, the Class of 1953, early in Sep- tember of 1949. Remember how confused we were the first few weeks of school! This confusion was soon overcome, for we put our noses to the grindstone and worked steadily, ever striving to prove our worth to the school. The popularity and success of our first undertaking, namely the Freshman Talent Show, proved to be only the first spoke in the wheel of our successful activities. Our Freshman Party, under the sponsorship of Mr. Raymond Norris, gave us our first taste of the many social affairs that were yet to come. September 1950--we were now wise Sophomores. Although we were minus a few of our old classmates, we still retained our fi fhtin s irit. This was easil E 8 P Y seen with the enthusiasm we displayed as new members of various clubs at West Deer. Turke Trot which was the theme for our S lk S was a si n that Thanks- Y 8 giving was approaching, and that we were well on our way tn our Sophomore year. September l95l-we became upper classmen. The thrill of being upperclass- men was depicted when we eagerly selected our class colors, flower and motto. All seriousness was disbanded for the performances of our hilarious Minstrel, Here Comes The Showboatf' For the remainder of the year our foremost thought was centered on May 8th, the day set for our prom, The theme Oriental Gar- dens came to life after many hours of hard but enjoyable work. September 1952-Seniors! We now entered upon that phase of our high school career which might be called Senior Daze. The time of Commencement seemed to be far in the future, but we soon found this was to be the shortest of our four years. Pictures and namecards were received as lasting mementos of our last year at West Deer. Our Senior Play Mother Is A Freshman proved us as talented thespians with its best ever performances. The prom, held in our honor, re- mained a cherished memory for it was our last formal social affair at our Alma Mater. Our field trips, Senior Night, and picnic became a part of the past, and Commencement boldly came into view. The sending of invitations and many practices sent the few remaining days hurrying past. All too soon Baccalaureate and Commencement were over. With heavy hearts, but with heads held high, we passed through the doors of VVest Deer, never to enter again as students, but as alumni. 1 13
