We look for- ward to much activity and involvement from them in the years to come. ff: l f'- I975-76 Y0u're ,bi ew Beginning , , , for meeting new people. alf a There Kerry Wiemokly As freshmen, the class of '79 had two events. Our first one was a Car WashlBake Sale, inwhich we didn't do too well, but good enough to get us started. Then we had our very success- ful Blster Egg Sale. With janet Mansfield as President, they raised money with events such as the usual Car Washes and bake sales. Thoughthey weren't the most successful class in history theylearned to work together as a Class and are on their way. 1973-74 ave Times Changed ? Jill johannsen was class President, Patty Del Fante was Vice President and Kim Miller was Secretary. Ricky Brice and Malinda Knutson were Mr. S Miss Hello. Carrie Rizzio was Spartan Belle. Our freshmen football team was 4th in the Sierra League. We sure look different and hopefully we act different. It was a great four years. I i ,sa W Bonnie Denison P-T, ,sq Aw-Q 1' s 1,1 1 hun. Long a Spartan in-law, she joined her husband Barry as an official '?family member. Basketball ga.mes ! ! I Qfor what reasons we wonder '25 are her favorite sport. Oil painting, knitting, snow and water skiing, cooking, playing bridge, and collecting antiques keep her active and away from shopping, her most pleasurable recreation. This activewomanwas asongleader both at Glendale College, where she was voted one of the ten outstanding women, and also at UCLA where she was president of her sorority and where she met her husband. She was later further involved with volunteer work through the Covina Junior Womens' Club, the PTA, and Little League. A handsome Irish setter, The Duke of Darvey, joins her husband and ,three sons, Brett, Dan, and Dean, in greeting her at home each night. For her steadfast support of all Spartan activities, the staff happily dedicates this year's 1977 Lycurgean to Mrs. Dee Porter. ML SENIORS . 'Q Coach Doug Agatep 2 f f ' an 563 Coach Greg Gary After six long hard years, the 19 76-77 West Covina Varsity wrestling team captured the Sierra League championship. It was the dedication, desire , and determination that these wrestlers had which carried them to the top all alone. The Sierra League was rated the toughest wrestling league in the SanGabriel Valley, and the Spartans ended the sea- son rated Number One. It was the combined efforts ofthe coaches, wrestlers and loyal followers that made all this possible. The evidence of the power which the Spartans possessed was evident early in the season as WC upset highly tauted Southliills 31- 18. Afteruailing 18-11 with only 5 matches left, WC completely dominated the upp er weights, not losing one. Al behr and Dave Manzani's victories were the turning point to insure the victory. The next test of the Spartan strength was against the ever p ow erful and defending league champs, Edgewood. At the 157 match, with only 5 matches remaining, WC was on the short end of the score, 24-3 , with the only victory by Craig Toups at 106. However , with wins byjoe McConvi11e, A1Behr, Dave Manzani fpinj, Tony Cimmar- rusti, a nd Bob Epps, the Spartans were' able to pull out a tie to keep them in First Place. WC only needed to beat Los Altos to clinch the Sierra League championship. We pulled out all guns and overwhelmed IA by a score of 39- 14. Important victories by Larry Castillo, jay Gonzalez, and Rick Brice early in the match proved to be too much for the Conquerors, as WC went on to dominate the upper weights and therby clinch the championship. 9 N we '- Q5-Hu Coach Craig Snyder I 'Q il! 1'-A 2 9 .....,..w, y Q Q' . Anything but boring, Spa- rta's pre-league record was 10-3, includ- ing a second place in the Bishop Amat Tournament and a first place in the Edge- wood Tournament. However, the first few league games devastated the team's hopes for an easy Sierra League championship, even though, WC averaged 76 points per game while allowing opponents a 51 point average. Despite this the league season ended a disappointing 7- 7. Tipping off the ball was Center Mike Evans who stands 6'9 . A dedicated team player, Evans proved his outstanding shoot- ing abilitywith over 615 points, including six games scoring 30 or more, with a game high of 36 A high college prospect, Mike was chosen to the All Tournament teams in the Covina and Bishop Amat Tourna- ments, and was chosen the Most Valuable Player in the Edgewood Tournament.
