Q. S 5 W' - x no O' Few of us see things more clearly than when we look at them in a humrous light. That's how we, the Lyke staff came to select a satirical theme, Through The Looking Glass, for this year's annual. We have tried to picture, in the pages that follow, our life at West Covina through the eyes of a famous satirist-Lewis Carroll. In his writings, Mr. Carroll has depicted not only fanci- ful and delightful stories, but poked innocent fun at the institutions of his time. Often, through satirical exaggeration, he has given people a more accurate picture of things than has many a noted historian. Our job, though, is not to give a histori- cal account of the years events, but just to gather together happy memories. see, with Alice fwhoIs been seeing some pretty interesting things this yearj just what's been happening. Four, three, two, one, zero . . . blast off All passengers on jet flight No. 68973 Please fasten safety belts . . U 'Brrrrrr . . . I' Qwent the jetj ulp, gasp, cough, cough Oh my goodness-No! Why, I can't see a thing! This can't be fog, it must be smog . . . Co-pilot Roe, bring up that left wing. That we'll never penetrate this stuff, is my calculated guess Captain Alice! What'll we do? Even we can't pilot a jet through this goo! Remember the little red button, Crew. Push down, breathe in, and count to two.', Lucky thing, they thought of these ejecto-seats. Be sure and pull the ripcord on your parachutes Before it's too late! All out on the count of eight!'! One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight- Push buttons in-and keep a stiff upper chin. Yes, Captain Alice-But before we go-We'll miss you so One, two, fhold breathj Pull cord! Oh my . . I almost feel as if I could fly- Of course, I couldn't without a parachute! I'm going down further and further-faster and faster DOWN .I wonder if I'll land in that little park- At least, I think it's a park . . . Or a . . . Was that a rabbit that just passed me? He keeps running 'round and 'round. Oops! I think my feet just touched the ground. Now Hey, Mr. Rabbit! Wait for me! I can'tg I'm late. I'm in a hurry, can't you see? Whats your name, young lady? Said the rabbit as he paused. Alice is my name-I'm captain of a jet. sr rx My name's Harvy. Bye now. See you later. You bet But, but, Mr. Rabbit-where are you going? I don't know my way around here. Just follow me-but, mind now, hurry up- I'm late-and my journey I'll not interruptll' If you can't follow close, follow far behind . . . You're sure to be amazed at the things you're going to find
