BASKETBALL TEAM Standing Clifford Bellows Coach P Stucky E Wendler D Raddatz E Brown E Herald B Fisher and R Wntt Managers front Hou J Heley H Verness D Kirkland J Olson J Antoff The Cardinals of this year proved to be one of the best In the history of the school The seniors of this year were well represented on the starting flve by Red Verness, Jnm Heley and Dean Klrkland The rest of the starting flve was made up of John Olson, a gunlor and Jerry Antoff, a sophomore The season started out wrth a bang wlth a lopsided victory over Byron In the flrst conference game of the season ln all, the team was undefeated sn conference play with a total scoring aver age of 55 ponnts to thenr opponents 33 Outside of conference play the Cardinals lost only three games Two to Kenyon and one to Goodhue whom they defeated In a return game for Goodhue s flrst defeat ofthe season The Cardnnals entered the East Subdlstrlct Tournament at Kenyon a strong favorite for the cham puons but were beat out the first night by a hot shootung Cannonfalls quuntet This was a very dlsappolntmg defeat for the boys as they really should have gone to the finals but nt was a very good season anyway The West Concord Business Men entertained the football and basketball boys to a very dellclous meal to show their appreclatnon of the fine records nn both sports Coach Cllff Bellows, and Coach Jam Mortensen should be congratulated on the fnne lob they dad with the boys In basketball whsle Ed Klooz should be complimented on the flne record In football Dean Krrkland captain an basketball gave a flne speech whale Red Verness and Jam Heley contributed a few words as co captalns In football The close of the basketball season was celebrated when the sensor boys played the local business men called the Ancrent All Stars The All Stars won by the score of 35 to 31 That was the end of sports for the sensors of l95O We hope heartlly that the classes In future years can carry on wnth the records that we have accomplished rn 1950 44 . .'
