E ORI L TO JIM MCCOY My hope, my adventure, my dreams, my expectations, all that I want, and all that I need. -Words found in his New Testament Cn a balmy evening a few years ago I stood on the front campus of W. C.B.C. The sun had set and the darkness that follows dusk was quietly falling. jim McCoy had called to me from across campus, and then, as though he had just thought of something urgent, came jogging to where I was. I-le had a problem and was seeking advice as to what he should do. It wasn't the kind of counselling session that required an office so under God's canopy we talked. After a few minutes a solution seemed to present itself. I remember his familiar response. With an infectious smile that dispelled worry, he tossed his shock of red hair, shrugged his shoulders in a carefree manner and said, Thanks, Bro. Bishop, that helped a lot. As he left he burst into a spirited whistling of some familiar tune and I listened as he marched into the night. As I reflect upon the jim McCoy I remember, I think how typical this encounter was of him. The dedicated young Christian with whom I was so familiar was always jovial always ready to take advice. He put his whole heart into his activities at West Coast Bible College and when he left to serve his country I have no doubt but what he did the same in this service. When death came so soon his life seemed unfinished. These things are so hard to understand. But I recall the encounter at dusk, the song in the night and the jim I knew. As the whistled notes of his song a few years ago seemed to hang on the evening air after he had departed, so his memory lives on in the hearts of those of us who knew him. It is a memory of personable enthusiasm and loyal dedication bundled into the being of a lad we called jim. Yes, his song was ended but the melody lingers. By David Bishop jim McCoy was Awarded These Medals. Air Medal Bronze Star Commendation Medal Purple Heart 88
