FOR ORD In this album of memories are pictured the people and events which stand out as highlights of the year. Our Sincere desires are that you will enjoy reading this book as much as We enjoyed compiling and editing it. Throughout the 1968-69 school year at West Coast Bible College, there have been many sources of inspiration. One source, however, had a particular Warmth to it-a special aptitude of wit, jovial friendship, and a genuine spark of Christian liveliness. But also there was undercstand- ing, compassion, and a prime concern for the stuclent's and the school's welfare. This exemplary source of inspiration was Rev. R. E. King, formerly of South Carolina. A superb man of God, he has pastored and ievangelized with a great deal of success, and during theifirst part! of the year, was the Superintendent of West Coast until he Was offered the honored position of Youtil Director of Northern California and Nevada. Cwhich position he currently holds.J He and his fine dedicated family have proved to be ia continuous blessing for they all possess that special King Spirit. DEDICATIO Rev. R. E. King Brother R. E. King has stood out in his consistency, brightened our days with his Warm, boyish grin, and most important, loved and served God Without reservation With satisfaction and great pleasure, We, the staff of the 1968-69 Sentinel, dedicate this yearbook to Reverend Kingg and express our gratitude and deepest appreciation to, and for him. 3 SISTER SMITI-I was another ingredient an W. C.B. C. that made school life so pleasurable. l-Ier sweetness and glowing Warmth made a day that much more gratifying. She was never too busy that she couldn't take a moment to chat or give advice. And now we express our thanks SISTER, SMITH, for the concern you showed for us and for making so many of the school days more bearable. 4 F ALL-ACTIVITIES FALL-CLEAN-UP FALL-CARNIVAL FALL-PICNIC F LL PICN C Two of a kind. E ORI L TO JIM MCCOY My hope, my adventure, my dreams, my expectations, all that I want, and all that I need. -Words found in his New Testament Cn a balmy evening a few years ago I stood on the front campus of W. C.B.C. The sun had set and the darkness that follows dusk was quietly falling. jim McCoy had called to me from across campus, and then, as though he had just thought of something urgent, came jogging to where I was. I-le had a problem and was seeking advice as to what he should do. It wasn't the kind of counselling session that required an office so under God's canopy we talked. After a few minutes a solution seemed to present itself. I remember his familiar response. With an infectious smile that dispelled worry, he tossed his shock of red hair, shrugged his shoulders in a carefree manner and said, Thanks, Bro. Bishop, that helped a lot. As he left he burst into a spirited whistling of some familiar tune and I listened as he marched into the night. As I reflect upon the jim McCoy I remember, I think how typical this encounter was of him. The dedicated young Christian with whom I was so familiar was always jovial always ready to take advice. He put his whole heart into his activities at West Coast Bible College and when he left to serve his country I have no doubt but what he did the same in this service. When death came so soon his life seemed unfinished. These things are so hard to understand. But I recall the encounter at dusk, the song in the night and the jim I knew. As the whistled notes of his song a few years ago seemed to hang on the evening air after he had departed, so his memory lives on in the hearts of those of us who knew him. It is a memory of personable enthusiasm and loyal dedication bundled into the being of a lad we called jim. Yes, his song was ended but the melody lingers. By David Bishop jim McCoy was Awarded These Medals. Air Medal Bronze Star Commendation Medal Purple Heart 88 :Wil .- Teach us, good Lord, to serve Thee as thou deservest, to give and not to count the costg to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to ask for any reward, save that of knowing that we do Thy willg through Jesus Christ our Lord. , --A prayer of Ignatius Loyola No greater Christian service can be rendered by any saint than a life of devotion and dedication. So appro- priate are the words of Loyola's prayer to the life of Myrle Horton until one could well wonder if this was not as much her prayer as his. Her task was never easyg her earthly reward was never greatg but in the kind, quiet, conscientious fulfill- ment of duty as she saw it she exemplified so well these virtues. MYRLE M. HoRToN Myrle Horton came to West Coast Bible College as Librarian in September, 1953. For twelve years her energies were dedicated to building and improving the W. C.B. C. library. ln winter she searched count- less book lists and book stores for new acquisitions. In summer she travelled many miles and sought out new book sources where ever she went. And always if funds were not available, she donated her own meager resources to buy books for her library. Today if you will visit the West Coast Bible College library you will find literally hundreds of volumes that bear this simple legend inside the front cover, Donated by Myrle Horton. On December 24, 1968, after prolonged illness Myrtle Horton departed this life to be eternally with the Lord. Although she had a lovely family of six children and many grandchildren who mourn her passing, hundreds of those who were a part of her West Coast Bible College family tenderly acknowledge their gratitude to her service and pay their respects to her memory. 89 HIGH SCHOOL BASKETB LL 3 i , WT fi- ff I W a' 'H S 5 M 1 .
