f€ f.972 -Jer ien ine CENTENNIAL EDITION WEST CHESTER STATE COLLEGE WEST CHESTER • PENNSYLVANIA • 19380 n-CKie - JOSEPH G. Murphy husm is Manager - Lester L. GE To you, the student, Night has left us standing here looking to a future and away from a past all in syncopated time. And yet we find ourselves in search of some lost chord. It is our essence we have lost. Vhile we slept the cornerstone was crushed. v;e address this letter to you, the student, because there is no greater single body on this campus more directly affected by the sudden and certain changes that have been made here than you. In the past four years, the student who now leaves v;est Chester has been forced to witness the most extensive con- struction and population growth ever in so short a span. Through pin-prick holes in a colorless sky, does our silent spirit slip by unnoticed, unaccounted for, unremembered? In one small space in time between the centuries we now cele- brate, what walls recall our beginning? V hat heritage is there? What thief has counted out his silver in selling off our birthright? This book is dedicated to that birthright somehow lost in the transiency of expedience, that past crumbled in a swift accidental turning of a crane. It was in this night that days of past and Old ifein, were sold for days of future and new buildings. Voices of infinity wept in their empty halls and were soon gone. Good, wretched, yet all immortal souls of a century past perished with the serpentine stone. As a staff we questioned the title of our book, as students we question the validity of this action. At the dawn of the second century, the first is beveled in the fashioning of another state megaversity. In fashioning the future, minds must think on the past. Hopefully, this institution has produced enough minds to insure a place in history for Westchestria and its walls and stones will not become just a passing thought forgotten as are dead. This book comes at the end of a long cold night. It is this day that we celebrate. No better appropriate time is there than now for a song, a laugh, a chance to think. So we give this day to you. It will pass from cover to cover. It is a day of future past.
