EDITOR ' S PAGE It is strange to look at the collected end to dreams and know that as all things must pass so does this once so uncertain yearbook. And yet it does not speak for great dreams nor cement fulfillment. It speaks odes to wanting eyes and laughter to ears within. Know not what works it was meant to fill, know only what works we did and that they are done. Know only from these moments what we touched. Here where past and future clash to be our present, do not look for a bible of our dreams but only for a frail design of days of future past. Let not our minds immortalize this magic named Westchestria, nor think but on what once it was or what in future it must be. For it is only brick between this mortar and cement and means to me no more than the pleasure and the laugh that carried from inside myself and on bricks and mortar spent. May it leave you in your idle hour left to your idle taste and not keep you to the sunsets you have seen or to this sacred place. For I am dream- ing in my hour of simsets yet to see and I am leaving in my tower this little part of me. And those of all my friends who ' ve shared my walls atop George Phillips grave, give to the present this piece of self, this ripe for aging page. And as the future is the past and a century of ' estchcstria hence, look on collected ends to dreams and mingle with us time and tense, and laugh at our beginning.

As some of you may know, this is West Chester ' s Cen- tennial year One hundred years of exis tence. Anything that hangs around that long surehj must have a lengthy, if not interesting, heritage To capsulize such a history is harder than capsulizing six hundred tiny time pills If you want to play M est Chester trivia, buy Dr. Sturze- heckers hook. It ' s quite good, humorous, interesting, and tediously detailed But the 1972 Serpentine cannot go into such a treatment of every year. All we can do is cover 1972 and show you a few old pictures that say, This is West Chester when it tvas six years old. But because you are so nice, and because our business manager says we can afford it, and because my Editor-in-Chief made me do it, the 1972 Serpentine proudly presents Highlights of our Heritage. This supplement records events of major significance in the growth of this university. I mean, college So, unless you kept a diary, this will help you remember when . . . 187I TH:E CrNTiiNNlAL y£All I97I
