A happy day or a beautiful experience forgotten for the moment often is recalled by a tangible object that holds an element of association. From the tangible objects of West Chester State Teachers College is molded the theme of the 1960 Serpenfine. The community of West Chester is replete with traditions and is a living symbol of progress steeped in historical environment. This community is the home of a college that emerges from its environment as an institution nestled in tradition and eager for advancement. The advances of the college are both progressive and ambitious and add to previous accomplishments to form a wealth of symbols with character and reverence. As a state college West Chester has strong bonds with the Commonwealth — thus the name of the college in the form of the state symbol marks the symbolic beginning of the Serpenfine.
