 FOREWORD Flash! The shutter snaps, and the picture is taken. Simple? No, quite the contrary. The process of taking a picture is a complicated, detailed procedure. The process of obtaining a thorough high school education is equally complex. In the initial step the film enters the camera just as the students enter the school: relatively new and unexposed to light. There is, indeed, much to be learned. Before an image can be formed on the film, the light must pass through the lens, which concentrates the incoming rays and brings them into focus. Acting as the lens for the high school, the faculty concentrates the incoming light in the form of knowledge and brings it into focus in the form of learning. The light entering the camera is then flashed speedily and accurately onto the surface of the film. The same precision can be seen in any of the sports played at West Chester High School. As the light strikes the film, chemical activity surges; the students at West Chester show a similar vitality through their participation in many activities. After a complete roll of film has been exposed, a new one replaces it. This new film in the camera is represented by the underclassmen, who are poised and eagerly awaiting the exciting times ahead. The seniors, however, have already completed their years of high school life, and the knowledge and experiences have, for the most part, made a permanent impression upon them. Today, like negatives, they are taken from the camera and sent into the world to develop into pictures of the capable leadership so necessary in tomorrow’s volatile world.
