We wish to thank our faculty, administrators, and school hoard for their guidance and leadership in directing us toward our future goals. Throughout the 1961-1962 school year these few people took upon themselves the responsibility of stimulating, enrich- ing, and guiding the lives of many students. Their lot was not an easy one in this year of the school’s evaluation. We meet these people every day — in the classroom, at school events, during extracurricular activities — and remem- ber how the “ruling elders” have strengthened the characters of all of us, even if it has been in only one small way. As we follow the paths of our own choosing, we realize that the journey wall be made easier because of their influence.

(bsidkaiion The members of the 1962 Garnet and White staff are proud to dedicate this yearbook to West Chester’s Superintendent of Schools, Dr. G. Arthur Stetson. Dr. Stetson has held this position since 1938, and his retirement in June of this year marks the end of twenty-four years as head of the school system. Throughout the years Dr. Stetson has introduced many new programs into both the elementary and secondary schools, effecting a type of educational revolution within the structure of the system. The completion of integration, the establishment of the jointure in 1948, the introduction of the concept of the small school within the school, and the addition of advanced classes are only a few examples of Dr. Stetson’s achievements at West Chester. In addition to executing his duties as superintendent. Dr. Stetson has participated in many church activities and has served on several state educa- tional committees. A past president of Rotary, he has worked on the local Y.M.C.A. and Tuberculosis Boards and has been appointed a life member of tbe National Education Association. These additional activities will continue to take up much of Dr. Stetson’s time; however, he insists that he will now be able to do “those things I’ve never had time to do.’ 7
