'7eac!m4 The Garnet and Whute pays trubute to three of our loyal faculty members who are leavung our school thus year Muss l-loffmeuer has taught mathematucs at West Chester sunce 1917, comung to us from Woodbury N J where she was head of the mathematucs department For two years before that she had been assustant un the art department at Mount l-lolyolce College from whuch she had receuved her degree She has guuded many of us through our geometry, algebra, and trugonometry and has been head of the mathematucs department here sunce 1937 lVluss l-loffmeuer goes to Nantuclcet Island off Cape Cod each summer where she has proved her talent pauntung puctures The puctures have been dus played un many art exhubuts She us very actuve un church and Sunday School worlc and un the Youth Fellowshup group connected wuth the Westmunster Presbyteruan Church She has the dustunctuon of beung one of the few women un church curcles to hold the posutuon of elder All those who have had her un class wull remember Muss l-loffmeuer as an excellent teacher and fruend MISS EMILY L I-IOFFMEIER We all remember Muss Peurce from our uunuor hugh days as our guude un those confusung furst years of hugh school She herself attended West Chester Hugh She receuved her early traunung for her lufe worlc at the State Normal School and her degree from Temple Unuversuty lVluss Peurce began her teachung career at the octagonal school house at Burmungham She then came to Buddle Street School where she later became pruncupal I 1925 she rose to the ranlc of the Assustant Pruncupal of the Junuor l-lugh School where she has been ever sunce Along wuth these dutues she supervuses the Audutoruum Grade School Muss Peurce us actuve un the Pruncupals Assocuatuon She has always had a personal unterest un her teachers and un her pupuls Thus has resulted un the unusually fune spurut evudenced by the teachers of the Junuor l-lugh School and un the fruendly feelung and the admuratuon exhubuted by her pupuls MISS ANNA P JAMES MISS ELIZABETH N PEIRCE Nluss James us well lcnown un the eastern Unuted States as a geographer She teaches seventh and eughth grade geography un Junuor l-lugh and for two years taught an advanced course to senuor hugh school pupuls Muss James was on a commuttee to help plan the course of study of geography for the state She has wrutten a worlcboolc Our lnclustrual World, and has lectured to teachers at the Unuversuty of Pennsylvanua on the subuect of geography As the secretary of the well lcnown West Chester Burd Club she has lcept a very accurate account of the actuvutues of the Chester County club We shall all muss Muss James fruendluness and unspuratuon un our school 13 0 0 Q .
