WEST CHESTER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL 1983 CONQUEROR “Ye arc the light of the world. ” With this statement Christ declares that Christians are to shine as light in the world around them. Every one who has accepted Christ as his personal Saviour has the divine Light in him. It is the Christian's responsibility, then, to allow this light to shine through him into ev- ery aspect of life, serving as a beacon both to warn the unsaved of the treach- erous shoals of sin and to light the path to our Saviour. We Are The Light Of The World 2 We Are A Light In Darkness .iik “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it. In John 1:15, Christ is described as the light that shines in a world of darkness. Each of us must work to relied that Light into the lives of the unsaved. With God’s abounding help, we can be used to enlighten the black world of sin. The apostle Paul admonishes us in Ro- mans 2:19, “Thou thyself are ... a light to them which are in darkness. ” We Are A Light To Guide “Who is a light to guide?” At West Chester Christian School students are taught to take this as their responsibil- ity: to guide others to be more like Christ. As teachers guide their students towards spiritual maturity through their studies and other activities, young Christians learn the importance of help- ing and caring for others. Students not only guide friends from school towards consecrated living but also learn to of- fer the light of guidance to the unsaved: “thou thyself art a guide of the blind.” MR. MURPR 1$ THE BEST ii This year we, the class of 1983. wish to dedicate our yearbook to a mart who has been a guiding light in the lives of many. Love, dedication, and patience constitute his shining testimony of godly character. By con- tinually giving of himself, on and off the soccer field, he displays a consis- tent example of Christ-like humility. From our hearts, we honor this faith- ful servant of the Lord, MR. Visions of Joe driving through the toughest defenses will haunt the dreams of rival coaches for years to come. Although Joe claims his preppy ties as his prized possession, he really likes his health-food goodies from Mom best. Joe's sure to maintain his good diet when he attends college to major in engineer- ing. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trustelh in thee. Trust ye in the Lord forever; for in the Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting (Isaiah 26:3). Soccer: 11. 12 Basketball: 11. 12 Choir: 11, 12 Joseph Matthew Barnard Dan Beal will always be remembered for his straight A's on his report cards. His genius-like ability and high grades helped him to attain the title of valedictorian. However, there is a more jovial side to his character: his amusing com- ments frequently spice up our classes. Dan's prized possession is his calculator without which he is never seen. It will probably accompany him to Tennessee Temple University where he will major in the field of mathematics. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart: and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him. and he shall direct they paths (Proverbs 3: 5-6). Basketball: 9 Julie's enthusiasm was displayed by drawing school spirit out of fans as well as players at sporting events. Although she is a successful cheerleader, her piano playing is her forte. She plays in church and school choir, and has won several blue ribbons from competition. Working with the first-graders this year has given Julie the desire to major in elementary education at Bob Jones University. “But they that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength: they shall mount up with wings as ea- gles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint (Isaiah 40:31). Cheerlcading: 9, 10, 11, 12 Volleyball: 10, 11 Yearbook: 11 Choir: 9, 10, 11, 12 Career: 12 Daniel Jay Beal Julie Faith D'Arcangelo Debbie is incessantly spicing up her classes by saying unpredictable things that amuse herself. In English class. Debbie performed her famous and unforgettable How-to-Makc-Bullctin-Boards speech. Although she laughs a lot, she has a more serious, down-to-earth side. Debbie is eager to help in any way she can. This quality will be invaluable to her when she attends Pensacola Christian College to major in missions. Whether therefore ye eat or drink, or whatso- ever ye do, do all to the glory of God (I Corinthi- ans 10:31). Volleyball: 11, 12 Cheerleading: 12 Yearbook: 12 Choir: 12 Career: 12 Bible Quiz: 12 Debra Elaine Griffith Friendship is a wonderful thing to share. Lynn is ready to befriend anyone who passes through her life. Her thoughtfulness and willingness to listen make her friendship priceless. Her sweet- spirited testimony has been an asset to the senior class and others around her. Lynn's cheerful kind- ness will dcHnitely aid her as she goes to Christian college to try her hand at nursing. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33). Chccrlcading: 9, 10, II, 12 Choir: 9, 10, II, 12 Yearbook: 12 Bible Quizzing: 10, II I' Rebecca Lynn Hall The senior class will always remember Alexis for her outstanding Christian testimony. She faithfully served on the Bible Quiz Team and choir throughout her high school career and was counted as a fine asset to both organizations. Her ability to speak easily with people will surely be an aid to her when she attends Liberty Baptist College where she plans to train for full-time Christian service. Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and sec if there by any wicked way in me and lead me in the way ever- lasting (Psalms 139:23-24). Alexis Ann Illes Connie's hard work and organization are two important factors that obtained her the positions of class president and editor-in-chief of the 1983 Conqueror. Her consistent neatness results in friendly teasing by her friends and classmates. Always giving of herself, Connie has gained the love of many, but particularly that of younger children. Possibly this fact is what determined her decision to study elementary education at Bob Jones University. For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee. Fear not; I will help thee (Isa- 21 Thanks, Mom and Dad, for everything you've done. I love you a lot! I'm really going to miss all my friends. Connie Kahakjian Thanks, Dad, Grandpop, and Grandmom, for helping me through the years! Thanks also to the senior class, who made me feel welcome. Helen Krivulka 21 David Brooks McIntyre Mary Beth McMillen Roberta Lois Noden Kristine Marie Osborn With his bird calls and flannel shirts, Dave has made it obvious to all what his hobby is: hunting. For his “How-to-Do-It” speech, he showed us how a flintlock is fired. The backfire left everyone deaf for the rest of the day. Dave will undoubted- ly lay aside his gun when he goes to college where he plans to major in elementary education and missions. “For God so loved the world, that he ga ve his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Choir: 12 Although Beth is only 4 10 ” tall, she makes a BIG impression. In basketball, she is a terror on the court. As far as schoolwork, she is an excel- lent student. When it comes to loving-kindness, Beth's spirit is ever-giving. This quality will be sure to make an impression on those for whom she cares as a nurse after graduation from Bob Jones University. “Therfore, my beloved brethen, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord (I Corinthians 15:58). Basketball: 9. 10, II, 12 Choir: 9, 10, 11, 12 Volleyball: 9, 10, 11, 12 Yearbook: 11, 12 Sweet and gentle on the outside but rowdy and high-spirited on the inside best describes this little dynamo. Kris was busy this year with career with Miss Hopson. She graded papers, put up bulletin boards, and taught lessons to the children. After school, Kris worked as an office secretary. This was an excellent working experience for her since she plans to major in secretarial science in col- lege. “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you (I Peter 5:7). Career: 12 One fact is sure about Roberta: she always keeps her cool. If the world should suddenly come to an end, Roberta would most assuredly retain her poise. This level-headedness proved in- valuable to the Bible Quiz Team when things looked shaky. Her ability to calmly handle every situation will most likely come in handy when Roberta begins to work as an office secretary after business school. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able: but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it (I Corinthians 10:13). Bible Quiz: 9, 10, 11, 12 24 Faith Ann Pippin David Jonathan Silcox One special event is prominent in Faith’s mind —one of the most important events in a lifetime. She plans to be married on October 29 of this year. Along with her hand in marriage, her fiance, Ken, will also receive her ”others-first” attitude and her sweet disposition. Faith’s never-ending love and patience will be a great help to her as she assumes the responsibilities of wife and mother. “O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together” (Proverbs 34:3). Choir: 9, 10, II Lunchtime is Linda’s favorite time of the day. She has an incredibly bottomless pit for a stom- ach. She likes to fill this pit with her lunch and the leftovers of everyone else surprisingly, Linda also enjoys nibbling on cat food. Linda is also known for her outstanding cheerleading ability. The fact is proven by her seven consecutive years as a member of the squad. She plans to continue her education at a Christian college. “Whether therefore ye eat or drink, or whatso- ever ye do, do all to the glory of God” (I Corinthi- ans 10:31). Volleyball: 10 Cheerleading: 9. 10, II, 12 Career: 12 David has been a member of this class since second grade. He faithfully served on the soccer and basketball teams throughout his entire high school career. During this time he has established a reputation as an aeronautics expert and math- ematician. His interest in flying is probably the reason he plans to major in missionary aviation at Bob Jones University. “Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil” (Proverbs 4:26-27). Soccer: 9, 10, 11, 12 Basketball: 9, 10, 11, 12 Baseball: 9, 10 Choir: II. 12 Wendy Jo has shown her versatily throughout her years at WCCS. She has participated in the various athletic activities offered to the girls. Her ability to interpret for the deaf has been very useful in her service for the Lord. Wendy’s desire to work with children will enable her to be a success in the career of either elementary educa- tion or pediatric nursing. Volleyball: 9, 10, 11. 12 Cheerleading: 10. 11, 12 Basketball: 11, 12 Career: 12 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). Linda Marie Shank 25 Wendy Jo Stewart Thank you. Mom and Dad. for making it possible for me to come to WCCS since third grade. You're the greatest! I love you! Thanks to all my friends, especially Michelle, for all the good times we've had. Beth XtcMillen I thank the Lord that He promised never to leave me or forsake me. 1 appreciate my family and friends— they're the best! Roberta Noden Thanks. Mom and Dad, for all your love and, most of all, for sending me to Christian school! Kris Osborn Joan Lorraine Stimeare Joyce Ann Stimeare Dawn Michelle Taylor Cynthia Lynn Tyson Joan always seems to be up to something. Whether it's teasing Mrs. Huber or concocting a good practical joke, she is constantly at work. Her fa vorite pasttime is just ha ving fun and she loves a good laugh. These characteristics played a major part in Joan's getting her job at K AY-BEE toy store. Joan plans to go to business school to major in secretarial studies. ‘7 can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me (Philippians 4:1 J). Yearbook: 10. II. 12 Joyce will always be remembered for her bub- bling personality, sparkling with kindness. Even though she never seems to get a joke, she giggles anyway. Her energy and vivaciousness ha ve aided her over the years while she was a member of the cheerleading squad. Joyce plans to attend Baptist Bible College in Missouri for two years of secre- tarial studies. “These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world (John 16:33). Cheerleading: 9, 10, 11, 12 Yearbook: 10, 12 Bubba is notorious for her unpredictable comments and her dimpled smile. She always has a friendly remark to brighten everyone's day. Her talents range from her a wesome skill in basketball to her beautiful voice in choir. Michelle's loving heart and encouraging spirit are attributes she will use as she works with handicapped children. The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust him (Nahum 1:7). Basketball: 9, 10, 11, 12 Yearbook: 12 Choir: 9, 10, 11. 12 Volleyball: 9, 10, 11, 12 Cindi's secretarial abilities were displayed this year while she worked in the office for career. Even though she excelled in typing. Cindi never seemed to have a typing eraser. Along with nim- ble fingers, she also possesses a melodious voice. This was proven by her attendance in choir for four years and her participation in a ladies' trio. Although Cindi is not sure of her future plans, she will be an asset wherever she goes! ‘7 can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me (Philippians 4:13). Cheerleading: 9, 11 Yearbook: 12 Choir: 9, 10, II. 12 Career: 12 o 28 Wendy Joy Walls Wendy has been busy this year improving her typing and shorthand skills, cheering at sports events, and singing in choir. Her faithfulness in school activities has made her a valuable part of the senior class. But when something tickles Wendy's funny bone, she explodes with her unfor- gettable ear-shattering laugh. The improvement of her secretarial skills will continue as she goes to Christian college to study in that field. “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him” (Nahum 1:7). Cheerleading: 9, 10, 11, 12 Yearbook: 11, 12 Choir: 12 Cathy always seems to be in a good mood and have a smile on her face. Although usually a quiet observer of the activity around her, Cathy comes out of her shell at lunchtime. The one thing for which Cathy will be remembered is her kind heart. She would not only lend you money to buy an ice cream at lunch but would go down to buy it for you. Cathy and her freckles will be missed as she attends a Christian college to major in secre- tarial science. “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have; for he hath said, will never leave thee or forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5). Bible Quiz: 12 Choir: 11 Since Michele came to this school in seventh grade, she has always gone about her work quiet- ly. Although she is not very loud, she always has something to say. This year Michele has taken a variety of subjects including Typing 11, Earth Science, and French II. Michele is not sure of her future occupation; she plans to take liberal arts courses in college. Michele Cathelene Wroten Thanks, Mom and Dad, for making my years of school the best I could have had. 1 love you! Joyce Stimeare I thank the Lord for giving me the greatest family in the world. Mom and Dad, you 7 never be able to compre- hend how much I love you! Special thanks to Eddie and Beth for always being there when I needed you most! I never could have made it without you guys! I love you both! Michelle Taylor I'm really thankful for the great friends I’ve had here at WCCS. They've been a constant encouragement to me! I'm going to miss them! The Wilds’ Evangelistic Team from North Caroli- na ministered to both students and faculty the week of September 13—17. Every morning of that week the quartet blessed us with their music and Tom Farrell challenged us from the Word. They also had puppet shows and story times for the elementary grades. That Thursday the Wilds and faculty challenged our soccer team to a game. Our boys defeated the men with the phenomenal score of 1 - 0. The climax of the week was the closing program on Friday night when the choir sang a piece written by Mac Lynch. The week will long be remembered by the students who made deci- sions for the Lord. Every October, the school holds an athletic mara- thon. Students and their parents participate in sports ranging from basketball to 4-square. The money raised this year went towards the building of the new gym.
