West Chester Christian School Is Proud To Present CONQUEROR 81 z Table of Contents Dedication page 4 Main Attractions page 6 Death Defying Feats page 34 Side Shows page 54 Concessions page 6 4 WCCS CONQUEROR EXPRESS Arson was suspected in a fire that did an estimated $200,000 damage early this morning to the Bible Baptist Church and School, 1237 Paoli pike. West Goshen, ac- cording to police and fire officials. West Goshen police said the church had apparently been broken into and burglar- ized prior to the fire's outbreak. The inci- dent was under investigation by the state police fire marshal. West Goshen police and the Goshen Fire Co., which was called to the 6 30 a m blaze, said police. The church's minister, the Rev. Allen Griffith, said this morning that the 340- student church school was called off, at least for today. Police said firemen sent to investigate reports of smoke at the church found an office window air conditioner pushed in, the office ransacked and a safe opened. “The fire was definitely set, a police spokesman said. The fire itself was confined to a down- stairs office of the large brick church, said Goshen fire chief George Herzog, but much of the building sustained extensive heat and smoke damage. Herzog said the fire call came in at 6:26 a m. About 35 volunteer firemen respond- ed, he said. No injuries were reported. Herzog said at 8:30 a m. that arson in- vestigators were combing through the burned office and taking pictures of the scene. Police reportedly had no suspect in the case. Griffith declined to speculate on a mo- tive or suspect in the burglary or fire. He said the church operates a school for kindergarten through 12th grades. The school was established in 1972, Griffith said. About 600 persons attend the church, be said. According to the pastor, cleanup and re- pairs would begin today with the aim of putting the school back in business as soon Is possible. He said students were notified tujtajr borne today through an already- establisned telephone chain. Griffith said an Inventory of the fire damage would be conducted today after officials complete their investigation of ibe scene “To make some nook of God’s creation a little more fruitful; to make some human hearts a little wiser, happier, more blessed, more manful; this is the work of God.” To succeed in such a work one must show forth love, loyalty, patience, kindless, and devotion. We at West Chester Christian School have been blessed in all these areas by a lady who is not just a teacher, but also a friend, and by one who is always willing to give help and Christian encouragement to her students. She shows how much she cares through her continual sacrifice; her dedication to the school is exemplified in her willingness to teach almost any class that needs to be taught, as well as work with the students in after-school activities. We would like to dedicate the 1981 Conqueror to a lady who has been giving of herself from the beginning of West Chester Christian School, Mrs. Ann Murry. unum mm Ringmasters Mr. Leo D’Arcangelo Minister of Education Principal of West Chester Christian Pastor E. Patti hopes one day to be- come a world traveller and learn how to fly a plane. She considers her beauty and charm among her most valuable possessions. Her bean portfolio will surely accompany her as she goes to college in the future. James 1:6 r j a During her eight years at WCCS, Orca” has become a favorite because of her great sense of humor. Wendy is just filled with witty and humor- ous remarks to liven up any class. Besides being a much- needed player on the girls' basketball team, she is re- spected by her teammates for her love of the Lord. Wendy loves to work with children as was shown in her many de- lightful Bible lessons. In the future she plans to take a dou- ble major of elementary edu- cation and journalism at a Bi- ble college. James 4:7, 8a I’m hungry, can be heard from Jeri's lips, if her stomach doesn’t tell you first. In fact, Jeri claims her Hostess blue- berry pie as her prized posses- sion. She has a vibrant person- ality that brings fun and ex- citement to each moment. Her leadership and Christian testimony have been seen by her participation in yearbook, Teen Pac, and the sports pro- gram. In the future Jerri plans to attend Baptist Bible College where she will major in secondary education. Phil. 4:11, 13 Gary has the uncanny ability to get sick at just the right times—whenever there is a test. When Gary does decide to come to school, he is amusing and fun to be with. We’re sure no one will forget his talk on the business man’s comb enti- tled Which Model is Right for You? John 3:1 6 Anne is aptly suited not only for her numerous responsibil- ities in school but also as your friendly neighborhood Avon lady. Her non-stop smile and cheerful personality lend mirth and merriment to every situation. Anne’s outgoing personality is shown by the aggressiveness with which she plays on the basketball and volleyball teams. She is an ex- ample to us; whether it be in yearbook, Senior Trip Com- mittee, sports, or just tying up loose ends, she gives her all. All these qualities will be of great value to Anne as she at- tends Baptist Bible College in the fall to major in secondary education. Ps. 37:4,5 Jeri Lynn Carman Exton, PA Anne Theresa DiSabato West Chester, PA Wendy Lynn Burry Media, PA Seniors Gary Lewis Demko Aston, PA Stephen Douglas Evans West Chester, PA Getting saved during his ju- nior year was Steve's most memorable experience of his three years at West Chester. He has become a dedicated Christian and encourages his classmates to serve the Lord. Steve’s endurance and fight- ing spirit make him an im- portant part of the high school basketball team. Ste- phen plans to further his edu- cation at Baptist Bible College to study for the pastorate. II Tim. 2:22 Besides the responsibility of making our dittoes, Carolyn also had to remind all of us to pay our class dues. In her nine years here, Carolyn has been an example to us by her “meek and quiet spirit.’’ Because of her Christian leadership on the cheerleading squad and in classes, Carolyn was picked as the Outstanding Christian Athlete of 1980. She has en- joyed working in the school office this year and plans to attend Bob Jones University for a two-year church secre- tarial course. Ps. 7:1-7 Paul is notorious for his slightly deranged inventions such as his infamous “30 sec- ond hot dog cooker. His role as a ghost in A Christmas Car- ol has Hollywood agents run- ning after him. Because he is content and easy-going, George is a friend to everyone. Being in charge of candy sales and making pep pins leave him with little free time, but he is still willing to give a helping hand where ever need- ed. His mechanical inclina- tions have led George into the field of computer program- ming at West Chester State College. Heb. 13:5 Although Matt is just a lit- tle guy, his seven years in the school have proven that he’s got a big heart. He took on the responsibility of leading, and sometimes pushing, the sen- ior class to reach its goal. “Magic’s” height makes no difference on the basketball court as he dribbles around any opponent. He looks back on his summer at High Point Bible Conference with fond memories because of the spiri- tual impact the camp had on his life. Baptist Bible College is the place where Matthew plans to continue his educa- tion, later to become a Chris- tian school teacher and coach. Col. 3:17 “Bunny” always seems to be dropping a few books. Her love for the Lord and pleasant per- sonality have made Bonnie a much admired person. Her gentle spirit exhibited both to her classmates and her first grade pupils will aid Bonnie as she goes into nursing at Bob Jones University. His testimony and will- ingness to help out have left a big impression on his class- mates. Jonathan plans to at- tend Philadelphia College of the Bible for a Bible Minis- tries Program and then pur- sue his masters degree in Christian Psychology. Gal. 5:16-26 In his five years here, Mike” has charmed teachers and students alike with his fun- loving personality. His love for children was obvious as he coached an intramural boys’ basketball team and worked with Mr. Boston in the fourth grade. Mike has enjoyed par- ticipating in the athletic pro- gram throughout his years at WCCS. In the fall Michael plans to attend a Bible college and major in Business Man- agement. Rom. 10:9, 10 Jay has proven himself a scholar who truly uses what God has given him. Never get- ting less than an A,” Jay was the example of a perfect stu- dent. His friendly manner and soft temperment, shown to all who have come in contact with him, will be of great val- ue as Jay goes on to serve the Lord in the field of electrical engineering at Penn State University. Phil. 2:13 “Dave” will always be remem- bered at the class clown. His humorous comments on life kept everyone laughing until they cried. Although Paul is most known for his wit, he also has a serious side. His or- ganization of the meatball sandwich sales showed Dave’s leadership. Always giving en- couragement to those that were under the weather, he proved himself to be a true friend. We’re sure he’ll take his penguins with him as he goes on to a Bible college. James 1:22, 23 Michael Shawn Stewart Glen Mills, PA David Paul Taylor Wilmington, DE 1 7 Keith David Taylor Coatesville, PA Faith Ann Weaver Coatesville, PA Keith is a multi-talented young man with experiences ranging from managing the school store to riding in horse shows. His organization and efficiency are traits which will benefit him as he goes on to Bob Jones University for a major in church administra- tion, later to become a youth pastor. Ps. 138:1 Fredd can always be found creating a new bean charac- ter. His tales of dirty restau- rant kitchens have made us all want to eat out a lot more. It is certain that he will never become a secretary with his typing skills, but whatever Fredd decides to do in life, he will always find something to laugh about. James 4:17 Jim is recognized by all for his talent in running all those little errands — from getting candy, to mailing packages, to just about anything and ever- ything! Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor dark of night could keep him from his duties. Since Jim never leaves a job undone, he will be well- prepared as he goes through life. After graduation Jim plans to go on to a trades- chool. I Cor. 15:58 Shut up, Keith, is most heard from her, but actually she is a soft-spoken lady. Faith is always carrying an oversized book under her arm, and we’re sure this is the rea- son for her strong biceps. She seems to get an A on every assignment, making her classmates turn green with envy. Waynesburg College is the place Faith Ann has cho- sen to pursue a career in chemistry. Carolyn Hastie, Tanya Stroh, Wendy Walls, Peggy Muller, Linda Shank, Jeri Carman, Sue Osborn, Julie D'Arcangelo, Joyce Stimeare, Jonell Brain (mascot). Varsity Soccer Cheerleading The Varsity Soccer cheerleaders of WCCS did their job in pre- paring the soccer team for their games. They all believed the cheer Let's get fired up as they encouraged the team in both losses and in wins. The cheer- leaders were a very important part of the sports program this year as they led many pep rallies and showed the students what school spirit was really like. 37 First Row: Matt Pollock, Mike Stewart, Dave Silcox, John Kabakjian, Bill Kephart, Paul Kabakjian, Brian Wroten, George Osman. Each man on the team played their heart’s out and even when they didn’t win they knew they had done their best, and those poor other teams knew they were in a battle for the victory. We must admit that much of the credit for the team must go to Mr. Brain the coach since it was his job to hold the men together and inspire them in both the wins and the loses. 41 Kim Mcmillen, Peggy Muller, Diane Shank, Debbie Hamilton, Dawn Jenkins, Michelle Perkins. Junior High Basketball Cheerleading The Junior High Cheerleading Squad captained by eggy Muller showed enthusiastic support for the Junior High Basketball Team, whether win or loose. They stuck together throughout the season encouraging each other and retaining a strong testimony even in some difficult losses. This year the coaches, Mr. and Mrs. Murry, tried a variety of defenses and offensive plays, which confused their opponents, and aided the six Junior High girls in learning the game of bas- ketball. Chosen to the All- Conference team this year were Wendy Burry, Sue Ev- ans and Beth McMillen Junior High Basketball The 1981 Junior High Basketball team had a tough time this year. There were many injuries and other circumstances that kept the team back. At the end of the year they had done their best and ended the season with a record of 6 wins and 7 losses. These all describe the 1980-81 varsity basketball team. The team has worked hard throughout the year always encouraging each other whether on the floor playing or sitting on the bench. Opposing coaches, players and even the officials have commented on the good atti- tude of the team. There are three words that describe the teams efforts leading to the league championship and the many wins. They are “For the Lord.” ACCAC Tournament After winning the League Championship, the Varsity Basketball team continued its nine game winning streak to make it eleven straight. The defense decided both of the league tourney games. In the first game against Faith, the team’s great bench came through with Gil Watt and Buddy Cremeans ready to go and do their job of pulling down rebounds and scoring points. In the second game, the team hassled Calvary with an inverted triangle-and-two defense. Cal- vary was held to only 4 3 points while WCCS had 56. Steve Evans, Matt Pollock and John Cre- means were selected for the All-Tournament team. The team is now planning to go to addi- tional tournaments to extend their winning streak. Baseball Marathon Every year the students at West Chester Christian School have a marathon to raise money for new gym equipment, and this year was no exception. The students participated in basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball, 4 square, whiffle ball. etc. The students then collected the money that was pledged to them for however long they played, raising $2.000. There was also a bake sale and something EVERYONE enjoyed - sponge throw , where you could pay for wet sponges to throw at your favorite teacher or student! Everyone had a good time talking, laughing, playing games, eating, or just plain watching! Thanksgiving time at West Chester Christian School is a special time for the students. The elementary students dressed up as either Pil- grims or Indians. The kindergarteners and first graders enjoyed a feast of hot soup topped off with home-made pumpkin pie. The second through sixth graders could be found playing games and deciding who was the best-dressed Pilgrim or Indian. All the elementary and high school students saw an enjoyable movie called The Incredible Jour- ney. Above all, everyone learned to be thank- ful and praise the Lord for all that He has given to us. Thanksgiving Chapel Every Thursday the high school students meet in the afternoon for a chapel service. During this service the students participat- ed in singing hymns and other songs, led by Mr. Huber, fol- lowed with a message from God's Word given by a pastor or other special speaker. Winding up a long day with chapel, al- ways made it more complete. « On December 22nd West Chester Christian School had their annual Christmas program.
