Text from Pages 1 - 96 of the 1980 volume:

Dear Senior: Congratulations! 4s June 1980 comes and goes you will look upon it as one of the most important times of your life. It will serve as a focal point for all your days on earth. It will first of all stir memories of school days which passed so slowly while you attended W.C.C.S. but now seem to have gone by so quickly. It will also be remembered as a time of decision making which may set patterns for your whole lifetime. Finally, it will serve as a stepping stone to adulthood with all its accompanying responsibilities. It has been a great privilege for us at Bible Baptist Church to provide the ministry of West Chester Christian School to meet your educational needs, but our interest in you will not diminish when you graduate. We will look on with great anticipation as you progress through life with Christ. Be assured of our earnest prayers that God’s best will be yours. Many have gone on before you as good testimonies of the “conqueror” spirit and faithful witnesses for Christ. We trust you will be the same. We have been proud to have had you as a student for you have maintained a clear testimony for the Savior. Now, as an alumnus, may you uphold the standards and convictions you have been taught. In school it is relatively easy because everyone does it. When you leave school, you will have to be prepared to stand alone. At one point in his ministry the Apostle Paul wrote: no man stood with me. but all men forsook me Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me. ” You, too, will find Him faithful if you put Him and keep Him first in your life. As you step forth awaiting God to push back the horizons of the rest of your life, we will be anxiously watching to see God’s plan unveiled and fulfilled in a very special person, YOU. Sincerely in Christ, Pastor E. Allen Griffith Psalm 37:4 2 Let The Threshold This year the staff recognizes a man who is appreciated for his godly conduct as a teacher and a coach. Frequently consulted for person- al counselling, this Bible and history instructor is particularly admired by the basketball play- ers for his consistent concern and enthusiasm. Though she is not generally outspoken, her voice played a major role in the high school choir. Her participation in the career program kept her busy designing bulletin boards and grading papers for Miss Langham. After graduation, she plans to attend Liberty Baptist Bible College. “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. ” Colossians 2:6- 7 WCCS: 4 years Choir: 9-12 Yearbook: 11, 12 Gordon Thomas Pippin Jr. Outgoing and ever-ready to help, “Gordy is a friend to nearly every person he contacts. His amiable personality made him the top salesman of yearbook ads during his junior and senior years. Not only a super charged goalie himself, Cordon also coached the junior high soccer team and worked in the career program. He plans to continue his work at Bishop Nursing Home with the hope of becoming a dietician. “And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed. ” Deuteronomy 31:8 WCCS: 7 years Yearbook: 11, 12 Choir: 8-12 Soccer: 8-11 Jr. High Soccer Coach: 12 Band: 8-10 Career: 12 46 Cheryl Lynne Wllllcombe In the four years that “Cherylie” has been here, she has become an efficient, responsible girl. She has played the part of counselor for many of her friends, possibly in preparation for her plans to be the wife of a preacher. Cheryl has devoted much time and energy to various church and school activities. Her teaching experiences range from Sunday School lessons for three-year-olds to U.S. History classes for juniors in high school. She may further develop this ability at Baptist Bible College. “Brethern, count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,” Phillipians 3:13 WCCS: 4 years Choir: 9-11 Yearbook: 12 Basketball: 10-12 47 Peggy Jo Roderer Always on the run, “Peg” raced through high school from errand to errand. That she got them all done on time was undoubtedly a credit to her unique and much appreciated organizational skills. Her decathlon of talents like sewing, piano, basketball, and her exemplary academic achievements have earned her the admiration and respect of her teachers and classmates alike. She expects to finish her “course at Bob Jones University. “Casting all your care upon him: for he careth for you. I Peter 5:7 WCCS: 7 years Yearbook: 11, 12 Basketball: 10-12 Volleyball: 10-12 Sandra Jean Baker “Sanny” is one of those generous, outgoing, fun- to-be-with people. Her competitive spirit earned her a slot in the 1979 All-Conference basketball team. Although she’s generally heard before seen, her rowdiness is balanced by a serious, down-to- earth side. After graduation, “San” plans to take a two-year secretarial course. “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. I John 3:16 WCCS: 4 years Choir: 9-12 Yearbook: 11 Basketball: 9-12 Volleyball: 9-12 48 Lisa Marie Weber Right. ” Although Lisa is only five foot one inch, her patience and determination have made a big impression on her classmates. She claims her prized possession is her Vaseline which she puts on at least three times each class period. Lisa loves animals, and plans a career in animal husbandry or interior decorating. “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13 WCCS: 7 years Choir: 9-11 Cheerleading: 7-10 Kimberly Beth Davis “You're kidding “Linsey’s genuine thoughtfulness and willingness to listen to others make her a much sought friend. “Kimmy” demonstrates her sincere desire to please the Lord in all things by striving for excellence in school and sports. This fall Kim plans to pursue training in biology or Christian education at a Christian college. “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 WCCS: 3 years Choir: 10 Basketball: 10-12 Volleyball: 10-12 Dale Ebersole One face dominates Kathy’s portfolio of photos: Dale's. “Houses candid comments about life in general are often humorous but truthful. “The Skywalker” demonstrated his strong leadership ability on the basketball court at Hagerstown and in Wisconsin. In the future he plans to attend college and major in accounting “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13 WCCS: 2 years Basketball: 11, 12 Soccer: 11 Baseball: 11, 12 50 Kathryn Sue Blazer Kathy will probably be most remembered behind her camera. Whenever there was something special going on around school, “Katj” was there in a flash to put it on Kodak paper. Her leadership was displayed for the many years she was captain of the cheerleading squad, drawing school spirit out of spectators as well as players. She wants to attend a Christian College to become a photographer. “1 will love thee, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and high tower. ” Psalm 18:1,2 WCCS: 8 years Choir: 9,10 Yearbook: 10-12 Cheeringleading: 7-12 Volleyball: 10-12 51 Diane Karla Fetterolf Oh boy Di is a fun person to be with because of her unpredictable, nonsensical outbursts of emotion and her crazy comments on life. Hoagies are her specialty and they’re outstanding every time. Diane balances her cheeriness with her seriousness in studying the Word of God. She plans to further her studies at Bob Jones University, where she will take a two-year secretarial course. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. ” Psalms 37:4-5 WCCS: 3 years Choir: 10 Volleyball: 10 Timothy Paul Carman “Quasimoto’s” inspiring solo in the Christmas program exposed only one of this shutterbug's talents. Tim’s dependability gained the respect of his fellow ball players on the trips to Hagerstown and Wisconsin to compete in the basketball tournaments. Having focused his goals on engineering in the science field, Tim plans to attend a Christian College in the future. “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. ” Phillipians 1:21 WCCS: 8 years Choir: 8-12 Yearbook: 10-12 Basketball: 10-12 Baseball: 11, 12 Daphne Lynn Widdicombe “Daph has brightened up many gloomy days with her sparkling sense of humor and snappy wit. During her senior year, she took the responsibility for ice cream sates and participated in the career program, investing much time and effort in menial tasks, such as separating coins with a money sorter. Daphne would like to be a lawyer, and, in preparation, will attend Bob Jones University in the fall. Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart and of a good conscience and of faith unfeigned. ” I Timothy 1:5 WCCS: 3 years Ice Cream Chairman: 12 Teen-Pac Vice President: 12 53 Doris Ellen Major Apparently a quiet observer of the activity around her, Doris is really a wellspring of varied arts and talents. Her creativity spills out in oil painting and calligraphy, while a loving interest in animals helped her choose biology as her intended major at Cedarville College in Ohio. “The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom and before honour is humility.” Proverbs 15:33 WCCS: 6 years Yearbook: 12 Choir: 9, 10, 12 Basketball: 7, 9 Tacey Scot Chua If “Tace” is known for anything it's her straight “A's.” Tacey “Chihuahua ” will also be remembered for her spelling ability which she leaves to Bill Kephart. She bequeaths her health food diet of “bird seed” and wheat germ to Wendy Burry and George Osman. Tacey has worked hard on yearbook during her junior and senior years, leaving behind a consistent Christian testimony for her co-workers. Tacey will continue her studies at Valley Forge Christian College and then perhaps go into fulltime Christian work. “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:7-8. WCCS: 3 years Choir: 10 Yearbook: 11, 12 Career: 12 54 Pamela Michelle Watson Kittenish smiles and “poots ” language make “Pammie” one of the purr-fectly friendly people in the senior class. Although ‘Pootses” (cats) are her favorite past time, watching basketball games with Mrs. Allen runs a close second in her memories. Pam is an accomplished pianist who plans to major in music at a Christian college. “And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing. ” Thessalonians 4:11, 12 WCCS: 6 years Choir: 9-12 Yearbook: 11-12 Career: 12 55 Cynthia Dawn Ericson Cheerful and energetic, Cindy is always in the center of a group of giggling girls. Her non-stop chattering at school and on the telephone won her the title “Jabber Jaws. 99 Though she is most often socializing with many friends, “Cyncia manages to find time to show concern for anyone who seems to be having problems (her real adventures will begin when she enters Baptist Bible College, and then goes on to Widener University)! “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” Philippians 4:7, 11 WCCS: 4 years Choir: 9-12 Yearbook: 10, 11 Cheerleading: 9-12 Basketball: 9-12 Volleyball: 9-12 Theodore William Allen “Thank you and um hmmm 99 Memories of “The Doctor” gliding down the court, soaring from the foul line to slam-dunk over three or four opponents will haunt the dreams of rival coaches for years to come. Ted will not only be remembered for his great athletic ability but also for being the class clown. In fact, everyone seemed to think he was the best class joke of the year. Teddy plans to go to Baptist Bible College this fall, and after graduation there to become a professional basketball player or sports broadcaster. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways: then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. ” II Chronicles 7:14 WCCS: 4 years Choir: 9 Basketball: 9-12 Soccer: 9 Sandra Elizabeth Kerr “How embarrassing Sandy is a person with a bubbly personality, sparkling with kindness, generosity and a love for animals. Although her friends claim she is chaotic in her actions it’s obvious that she’s responsible enough to manage her finances. Christian Education is high on her priority list because she works twenty hours a week at a self- service gas station to pay the bulk of her tuition. Sandy plans to continue her education at a business school. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy pahts. ” Proverbs 3:5-6 WCCS: 3 years David Carlton Kilmer “Impressive” Dave rarely strode down the halls of WCCS without tucking at least three books on aviation under his arm. Generally propped over a flying magazine, he has plotted his life’s course toward the field of aviation maintenance at Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with a possible lay-over in the military. “Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. ” Philippians 2:16 WCCS: 3 years Basketball: 8, 9 Soccer: 8 58 Faculty The high-school teachers in West Chester Christian School are all dedicated Christians, trying to help their students grow spiritually and academically. The principal, Leo D'Arcangelo (1), sees that things run smoothly around the school, while still taking time to get to know each student in a more personal way. His efficient secretary, Sue Speaker (2), maintains a cheerful atmosphere, in spite of all her pressing responsibilities. Patricia Bagnall (3), a graduate of Bob Jones University, shows true consistency while teaching her World History I and II, U.S. History II, P.O.R., and Chemistry students. Rebecca Courney (4), who also graduated from Bob Jones University, uses her out-going personality to teach French I, II, and III, German I and II, and 7th grade English classes. From Temple University came Garton Crumrlne (5), a great help to Mrs. Bagnall in the Chemistry class. Manifesting a real love for God in everything she does, Patricia Griffith (6) teaches Shorthand and Typing I and II students consecrated efficiency. Thomas Hamilton (7), who attended Word of Life Bible Institute and Citadel Bible College, gives the Bible “insight” and new meaning while instructing the 7th through 10th graders in Bible and Physical Science classes. Another graduate of Bob Jones University, Joan Langham (8), saturates her students with Biblical priciples while teaching Biology and high-school English. Andrew Murphy (9) attended Shelton College. Although he teaches 8th grade Math, Earth Science, 7th and 8th grade Health, 7th grade geography, and boys’ physical education classes, he still finds time to give encouragement and help to his students. The 7th grade Science, 8th grade English, Business Math I and II, Accounting I, and girls’ physical education classes are directed by Anne Murry (10), who attended Lock Haven State College and West Chester State College. Showing genuine concern for each of her students, Mrs. Murry never lets a day go by without a kind remark or loving smile. David Natale (11) spends a lot of his time as the librarian while attending Bible Baptist Institute. Thomas Pollock (12) attended Albright College and Eastern Baptist Seminary. He now offers godly instruction and sound advice to his students in 7th grade Math, 8th grade U.S. Constitution, Bible for 11th and 12th‘graders, and U.S. History I. 61 The elementary teachers strive to see their pupils put Cod upmost in their lives, while showing patience and loving kindness in everything they do, setting a Christ-like example for their young students. From Baptist Bible College came an enthusiastic brother-and-sister team: Brenda Boston (1), who teaches 6th-graders and also instructs the Algebra I and II students: and Randy Boston (2), who teaches the 4th-graders. The 2nd- graders are taught responsibility as well as cursive, borrowing, and carrying from Jessie Cole (3), who also is a graduate of Baptist Bible College. The kindergarteners through 8th-graders and high-school choir learn to “make a joyful noise unto the Lord” from Armena D'Arcangelo (4), a graduate of West Chester State College. Linda Garner (5), who helps Miss Boston in the 6th grade geography and English courses while living a daily testimony of the Christian life, graduated from Drexel Institution of Technology. A pastor's wife from Tennessee Temple College, Joyce Hall (6), lays a firm foundation of gentle and loving discipline for the kindergarteners. Karen Hopson (7), from Baptist Bible College, builds an understanding of the importance of Cod in lst-graders’ lives. Another B.B.C. graduate is the energetic young man who instructs the 6th-grade boys’ physical education class and teaches the 5th- graders, Edward Meshey (8). Pamela Todd (9), from Slippery Rock State, shows determination and her love for children while teaching the 3rd grade class. 63 Thanksgiving Day At Thanksgiving Pilgrims and Indians could not only be found in pictures, but also at West Chester Christian School. The elementary students all dressed up as Pilgrims or Indians with feathers in their hair or rifles in their hands. Activities of the day included seeing a film called Pollyanna, ” eating homemade ice cream sundaes and playing soccer and various other games. A good time was had by all. Zoo This year for Thanksgiving the high school saw not only turkeys, but also many other creatures as they explored the reptile house, mammal house, the African plains, and many other inhabited territories. The upper-graders added to their enjoyment by riding the monorail and invading the refreshment stands. Everyone had a good time in “Philly’s Jungle. ” Teen-PAC Most of the students at W.C.C.S. have probably never heard of Teen-Pac, but this year it played an important role in the lives of its twenty members. The purpose of this nation-wide organization is to teach Christian high school students how our government operates, and to encourage them to be involved in politics. Teen-PAC (Teen Political Affairs Club) is open to students who have taken, or who are currently taking, U.S. History II, P.O.R., Economics or World History If. The club meets twice a month during 6th period to discuss the predetermined issue of the month, and to assign projects such as letters to Senators and bulletin boards. A trip to Washington D.C. for a national Teen-PAC convention has been planned by the members of our chapter, is the students become aware of the club, more should be joining to become vigilant champions of our American republic. Choir Twice a week, the choir meets with Mrs. D' for practice. They perform with the elementary grades in the Christmas and Spring Programs. Having sung at the West Chester Arms nursing home, the singers look forward to ministering at various churches throughout the spring.
