The Symphony Strings Are Playing The West Charlotte Orchestra was organized in September of 1958 by John L. Holloway, director of music. The orchestra has helped to develop musical understanding and appreciation. The original orchestra consisted of 15 members. A variety of pieces including selections by Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, and Shuman have been included in the many selections played by the orchestra. We believe that this contact with music will promote character and personality growth in students, through individual self-expression, through participation in group activities; and through the growth and development of special talents and abilities in individuals. 26
