Published By The Journalism Department Of West Charlotte High School Charlotte 8, N. C. Clinton L. Blake, Principal Foreword The 1960 LION Staff has chosen for its theme, Lion on the Loose, and we have tried to capture this mis- chievous little old fellow as he manages to find his way into any activity that West Charlotte offers. All is quiet on West Charlotte ' s front now as the pictures on the right show. BUT, as you turn the pages, you will see Limpty the Lion wake up. . .and once more, life at West Charlotte begins! Dedication MISS SPELLMAN L. LANE To MISS SPELLMAN LANE, who for sixteen consecutive years has been the guiding hand of sophomore classes at West Charlotte High School, we do affectionately dedicate this twenty - second edition of THE LION. Those who are fortunate enough to have been in her homeroom at one time, know of her great interest in students. This envied quality has given not only her homerooms but also the entire sophomore class a definite position of prominence in the schools history. Her undying efforts and magnanimous spirit have left each of us with an un- payable debt. Board Of Education R.H. BROWN B.S. HUNTLEY 6 Administration MR. CLINTON L. BLAKE, Principal Seniors: This concludes for you, your final year of formal high school edu- cation. The three years you have spent at West Charlotte High School have given to each of you ideas and knowledge necessary to meet the significant problems which may arise in our modern society. Some members of your class will use these years only as a stepping stone to higher learning. For others it will mean a final plateau in stages of formal education. To all we extend sincerest wishes of a prosperous future . Truly yours, C.L. Blake 7 Faculty JOHN A. BARBEE Biology Do you have your yellow sheet? LUTHER BELLINGER Mathematics ' Go on, go on, go on. A variety of pieces including selections by Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, and Shuman have been included in the many selections played by the orchestra. But these things are only memories now. What is in the future? More football games, another Prom many more nights spent pacing the floor. Then— graduation. Leaving old friends, adjusting to college life, more football games, more dances and every night spent burning the midnight oil. What a monotonous life to lead! Gosh! It would be wonderful to be a junior again. Juniors L 1 1 ft IP?
