Chief Edson School life at West Central has much in common with an Indian Council meeting. We represent peoples from many different communities. The Indian chiefs as they gathered for their council meeting had a definite purpose for coming together. How definite is your purpose in coming to West Central? Re- gardless of your purpose in coming, there have been accomplishments for you. All of you have developed skills that make you more efficient in the social prob- lems of mingling with the other members of the tribe. You can read and write and speak more effectively than when you entered this council meeting. You have also gained much knowledge as to h omemaking and the production of agricul- tural crops, both of which are important not only to yourselves but to the respec- tive tribes you represent. If you have caught the significance of the real ob- jective of the council meeting, you have gained something much more impor- tant than the improvement of yourself. The real purpose of your stay here is to develop traits that will enablc you to return to the tribe anl help them work and play and live more abundantly. Not just you, but your people as well, should be happier and more useful because of the opportunity you have had of attend- ing this council meeting. May your chiefs have great courage but never have to use that courage to kill. May all your people be industrious and thrifty but never at the expense of other tribes. May the Great Chief find pleasure in your decisions as well as in your actions. ALLEN W. EDSON Superintendent Oh! Oh! What did he do now?
