CO-EDITORS: Janet Gamier, Sandra Lauer FOREWORD You are the fellow who must decide Whether you'll do it or toss it aside. You are the fellow who makes up your mind Whether you will lead or linger behind; Whether you will try for the goad that's afar Or be contented to stay where you are. Take it or leave it; There is much to do. Just think it over--it's all up to you. This addition will include grade classrooms and gym- nasium. It is expected and hoped that it will be completed for the 1961-1962 school year. superintendent's message SUPERINTENDENT WAYNE P. TRUESDELL The value of a school to the community and its youth is measured by the contribution its graduates make in the economic, civic, social and religious world. To the extent thatits graduates are better citizens, morally responsible, and successful in a variety of professions and occupations, that is the measure of the success of the school. It is our hope that the Class of 1961 willhave obtained the training in school which will help them to better achieve all of these goals. Also, and equally important, it is our hope that each graduate will have utilized all of the facilities of the school to the maximum; and that when he graduates he can truthfully say, 1 have worked up to my maximum potential; 1 have done my best. Best wishes for success. PRINCIPAL MR. JOHN KAPPMEYER SECRETARIES MRS. A few encouraging performances were provided by Steve Kaune and Nate Bender. Steve placed 2nd in the pole vault and Nate 2nd in the football throw to gain 7th place for the Blue Devils in the Conference meet. The outlook is bright for coming seasons, as most of the squad was made up of underclass- men. All the color, laughter, and light- hearted music of a broadway production nestled its way into the hearts of capacity audiences for three evenings. A fine co-operative venture of the in- strumental and vocal departments, and the drama- tics department, Damn Yankees was one of the high points of an eventful and gratifying year. A flurry of activity might best describe WC during its most spec- tacular celebration of the year...Homecoming I960. The making of floats, the snake dance, and the pep rallies heralded the opening of the festivities. The football game saw action between the WC Blue Devils and the North High Hawks. The ending score was 19 -12 with WC on top. Half- time was highlighted by the presentation of the queen and her court. Robe rt Potratz, Student Council Vice President, crowned Janet Garnier as I960 Homecoming Queen. Her stunning court consisted of Shirley Jipson, Floy Crabtree, Carolyn Erickson, Mardelle Parkinson, Vicky Werden, and Jean Nus. The big day was climaxed with the Homecoming Dance at the Com- munity Hall. From left to right: Floy Crabtree, Carolyn Erickson, Vicky Werden Janet Garnier, Mardelle Parkinson, Shirley Jipson, Jean Nus. Senior Float Second Prize 45 West Central was honored with the visit of three Filipino FFA boys. The boys toured the school, asking and answering questions. Each boy spent the night at the home of a West Central FFA member. The American history class, under the direction of Carl Heller, com- pleted a colorful map of the world. It covered the entire south wall of the social studies room. SCIENCE FRONT ROW: Ronette Bruner, Sandra Fortune, Barbara Schrader, Judy Palmer, Kay Leverington.
