HOMECOMING An upset in the Homecoming Queen election marked the '58 West Central Homecoming. Ignoring the candidates named by the football boys the student body elected Sharon Jipson Queen on a write-in campaign. Thursday evening a large crowd of students enjoyed a snake dance through the town. After returning to school a pep rally was held around a huge bonfire. Cheers and short speeches by the second team were given. The queen candidates were asked questions which they responded to with short talks. Watermelons that had been presented to the girls basketball team were enjoyed by all. Friday, October 10, classes were dismissed at 2:1 5 for the parade of floats. A brisk wind proved too much for the floats as crepe paper and napkins gave way to join the autumn leaves skipping across the landscape. A large crowd was on hand in downtown Maynard to see the parade and pep rally. Fayette overpowered the Blue Devils 20-0 before a crowd of chilled spectators. Half-time ceremonies included the presentation of winning floats; crowning of the Queen by Student Council Pres. , Steve Bryant; pre- sentation of queen candidates and selections by the WC Band. Festivities were climaxed by the homecoming dance at the Community Hall with George Patrick of KXEL provid- ing the Queen Sharon and attendants
